2025-05-17 04:09:19 +0000 UTCAbout the food, I think they aren't aphrodisiacs per se, I think they are just foods considered extra invigorating, and since this is China, probably foods that have yang qualities. It makes me think of the opinion Japanese have of eating eel, which I think has strong flavor and is very rich. However, it's hard for me to imagine what they were trying to accomplish here. Did you notice they were also trying to make the so-called masked lord suffer from heat? Maybe they were trying to get him to remove his mask? I think either the emperor or his brother had to attend. People seem to think the Emperor doesn't have to care about politics or what people expect or will interpret from his actions, but there are plenty of times when the Emperor is shown to not be able to do just anything he wants to.
