For a bit of clarification since it never shows up in the anime, but does in the LN, the attacks Sylvester and Karstedt threw out were supposed to be much weaker than the explosions they ended up being. myne’s blessing made them suddenly go from like lvl 3 spell equivalent, to lvl 9 instant death. She empowered their attacks , which also had to be blocked by her shield. The combination of which drained her mana.

The Gatehouses into the city are each equipped with such a device; and if I remember correctly the carriage that the Gray priests were traveling in was also carrying one.
