Day 16 'The Bakery Bears Advent Calendar 2024'

Good morning everyone and welcome back to 'The Bakery Bears Advent Calendar 2024'

Today Dan returns with another of his famous church visits. Whilst this one is a little younger than the first church we visited on Day 8, it is still 12th century. What makes his destination today so special is this church has a fortified chancel. This is something Dan has never seen before and he cant wait to see it!

Join Dan this morning as he:

Thank you so much for watching and we'll see you tomorrow with more mystery Christmas knitting!

Merry Christmas everyone!

Loved to see this unique little church. Including the pipe organ with its painted pipes! Charming. 😊

Wow, what a fascinating little church! I'm so glad I get to see these through someone like you, Dan, who knows so much about churches and their architecture and history. Otherwise I wouldn't realize how unique that one was. Thanks so much for sharing! I wonder how that organ sounds in that little space?

Laura Gorton

Beautiful ancient church!! Still being used by the community for worship! Thank you for sharing this with us!

Very beautiful and I loved seeing the pioe organ. I'd like to know what that back room was used for.

Oh this was lovely Dan! My goodness. What a beautiful, intimate, and fascinating little church. I do so love the BB Advent church visits... 💕 My wonderful Dad has always been interested in churches, cathedrals etc, and so from a very young age we would explore them together, and he would tell me the history of places, and we would look at all the beautiful details, and soak up the atmosphere. Through these experiences with Dad I developed my own love for spiritual spaces as well... I find them so fascinating, peaceful, and interesting... and also nostalgic because of my dear Dad. I will play this episode for him later today and I know he will love it too. 💕

Here us a link to some of the details if this beautiful and unusual church. It would seem that there are more paintings concealed under the white wash! If only more was visible! https://www.achurchnearyou.com/church/19046/find-us/ Thank you SO much for sharing this one Dan. There is very little online about its history. Looking forward to the next step of the hat knitting tomorrow.
