It is a tradition here at 'The Bakery Bears Advent Calendar' for us to have an annual taste test. We purchase festive treats which we have never tried before trying each one and crowning a winner! On Day 10 of this years calendar we bought our treats from the local farm shop, today we try them all!

Try three chutneys including ‘Caramelised Apple & Yorkshire Cider Chutney’, ‘Old English Piccalilli’ & ‘Caramelised Onion’
Try three beers including ‘Anglers Reward Wold Top’, ‘Castle Howard Session Blond Ale Lightly Hopped’ & ‘Howardian Gold’
Tell you the winning chutney and the winning beer!

2024-12-16 05:33:10 +0000 UTCI think that small breweries do not have the ability to bottle their beers, they often have small batches. Instead they often have a mobile canner come to the brewery and can the beer. Then they put a sticker around the entire can. I've had great beers in both cans and bottles. I hope for 5+ pounds you finished that beer!

2024-12-15 00:09:35 +0000 UTCI had to double check with Scott about this but he said the main difference between cans and bottles is that cans can store the beer better. Light through glass, for example, impacts the taste and longevity so cans caught on pretty quickly with the surge in craft breweries a few years back. We have both bottles and cans but cans have definitely picked up on popularity! Love the beer taste tests 😁

As a new member I look forward to watching the next advent. I wish that I wasn't still finishing my holiday gift knitting so, thati could have joined in. Kay and Dan have a wonderful Christmas 🎄

2024-12-14 11:51:22 +0000 UTCGreat taste test with local produce! Most Friday’s we do a cheese, charcuterie and wine evening…some local produce, some supermarket. It’s relaxed, we try different things and the best thing of all…no cooking x

Crisps on the other hand…..if ever you need a volunteer to taste crisps, count me in 😂I love the, that much, I don’t buy them anymore…hubby gets some occasionally and I have to stop myself from eating the whole bag myself 🙈🤎
