Daily Short Story: Kyo 34

Kyo and Nota were having a staring contest over the last piece of fried fish that Talos had cooked. Nota’s fork flashed with lightning speed, and Kyo’s ears twitched in response. A framework of space magic shielded the fried fish while another prepared to teleport it away to the waiting plate.

“Ignorant!” Nota said with a snort as a wave of synchronized mana dispelled the space magic.

“Wuuu!” Kyo said her focus intense. She whipped teleport magic up faster than ever moving the entire table to her left. When in doubt, teleport out!

Nota smirked as the plate holding the last piece of fried fish didn’t teleport with the table. Kyo’s Telekinesis fought with Nota’s each vying for supremacy. In a burst of inspiration Kyo split her mind, one portion asking for help from the vines. The second portion of the kitten’s mind focused on flipping the plate upside down.

Kyo created a pocket space perfectly sized for the fish fillet to slide into with a feeling of victory. Nota seeing how things were tilting towards the kitten’s side cast dispelling mana once more. It didn’t work quite as well as the first time. Kyo watched as the dispelling mana peeled away the pocket space, revealing the second smaller pocket space!

“Victory!” Kyo shouted raising her fork and knife with joy.

“Not so fast, munchkin!” Nota said, a blazing slice chopping thirty percent of the fish fillet off. Kyo watched in agony as a piece of paper carried off a third of the fillet. The kitten’s eyes grew moist as tears threatened to fall.

“I can make more…” Talos said from the kitchen stove where he’d been watching the entertainment from.

Kyo’s ears twitched and moments later her fork and knife assisted in consuming the fish fillet. Immediately after she teleported to the stool in front of the fish frying pan. A plate appeared through space magic while Kyo’s eyes locked their sparkling gaze on the fillets being placed in the oiled pan.

Nota fixed everything at the original table with a hand wave before strolling over to sit on Kyo’s left.

“So, now that you have a basic understanding of alchemy, space magic, and money the time to assist has arrived.” Nota said pointing at a small rat that appeared on the end of the cooking island.

“Food?” Kyo asked cautiously. She could sense that the rat was much bigger than it showed. Only the presence of Nota kept her calm. Four-legs were not meant to be so large in extra-extra space!

“I am not food. I am Xeraphiel. I am a Demon.” Xeraphiel the four-legged demon said with aplomb.

“Talking food!” Kyo said while pointing her knife at the Xeraphiel on her right and staring shocked at Nota to her left.

“Dangerous food.” Nota said while nodding sagely as Xeraphiel’s expression grew annoyed.

“Sign here midget.” Xeraphiel said to Kyo as a book opened half-way appeared near the kitten’s right hand.

Kyo’s eyes scanned over the book with a suspicious glint before she said, “Summoning?”
