But Baram had been conditioned by her specialized training. Act first, ask questions later. So she was already tumbling out of the emergency exit after the blonde girl, struggling to stabilize her descent when she asked, “Wait what?”
“Did you just overpower the wrong target?” inquired Visage.
“You fucking traitor!” accused Baram, shifting her body into a steep angle of attack. “I secured the target that matched the surveillance photos provided by… you!”
“Skinny, pale blonde girl. Loves kittens and mass murder?” asked Visage.
Baram’s mind was racing. Even as her bare body punched through the air in a desperate move to catch up with her target, her brain was trying to piece together how things had gone so wrong from the beginning.
But as the airplane vanished high above the clouds and the setting sun pierced through the horizon line, it became clear that she had to focus on other priorities.
“We are going to have a serious talk after this,” she barked, spotting the real Ana Castilho below and adjusting her descent into an intercept trajectory. Closing the distance at a dizzying speed. Hands outstretched, clawing desperately at her target. Barely latching on to a clump of blonde hair and the warm crotch of the president.
She had one shot at this - especially because Ana had the only parachute.
