I love your reactions, Biss. I enjoy them immensely. But this misanthropic view from you is misplaced. "This planet doesn't need us." What does this mean? What planet does need us? You wouldn't even know about this planet if there were no humans. In fact, without humans, this planet wouldn't even exist as there would be no humans to know that it existed in the first place. Are you saying that humans have no place in the universe? Do you realize that humans are essentially the universe's mind that allows it to see, contemplate, study and even if only a tiny bit understand itself. As far as we currently know, we are the only beings capable of contemplating the existance of the universe, the solar system and the earth. Without us, nothing exists.

This earth and the land has never belonged to one people. And as you said; just as it was taken from them, they took it from others before them and the same before them. No tribe or culture is innocent and none are guilty when in the dire procurement of land and sustenance. Man is like any other animal in that he needs food and shelter. No man will give up and die just to let others live unless those others are his own blood. It's the natural law of survival.

2023-12-12 22:59:46 +0000 UTCThe planet itself doesn’t need us but even with all the damage humans have caused we’re the smartest and most capable species on the planet and the only one capable of preventing extinction level events from destroying literally all life that we know of so I get what you’re saying but people don’t think about how badly every species depends on humanity to guarantee the survival themselves and life itself in the long term

2023-11-29 13:32:56 +0000 UTC(Tombstone) is a good movie "Based" on real events. It's a fun time. (Dances with Wolves) is another film set in the same era as The Revenant that you'd prolly like. Shows the good and the bad well. (Unforgiven) is also worth a watch at some point. Clint Eastwood and Morgan Freeman at their best. (Maverick) 1994 is a Mel Gibson western about card sharks that is also a fun time. (Silverado) I can't believe I forgot about this one. It's a great story also set in the old West. It's what one might call a classic western with a star studded cast.

2023-11-28 11:16:55 +0000 UTCThey conquered them just like other native tribes conquered each other for thousands of years. Same as every corner and people on earth. Your people stole land from whoever was there before you. It's no different. History isn't for the weak. Only in modern times are wars of conquest not celebrated or even exist. Well until Russia/Ukraine, besides that it hasn't been happening.

2023-11-28 06:29:37 +0000 UTCThe director, Alejandro Gonzalez Innarritu was also the director of Birdman. I think we did that movie back in October, I believe. So was nice to see more of his work. Very talented.

2023-11-28 05:51:47 +0000 UTCBased on this reaction, I am highly, highly suggesting "Dances With Wolves." I would watch it before you move on to proper Western movies. While fictional, it was set starting near the end of the United States Civil War, circa 1865, some 40 or so years after the real life events that inspired "The Revenant." And, you're going to love it. I expect it will get 5* now having seen your reaction to this one. It will help bridge the gap between the period of "The Revenant" and the period when most true Western genre movies are set. For more info on the real persons behind the "The Revenant", I recommend googling Hugh Glass and Jim Bridger. Bridger was the young man who stayed along with Fitz and was a major wilderness explorer in early American history. He was a very remarkable man by almost all accounts, going on to become probably the most famous real life character from the movie. For a proper Western, you can't go wrong with "Tombstone", "Unforgiven" or "Open Range" - each set in the late 1800s and early 1900s time period in western United States. AKA, "The Old West."

2023-11-28 05:19:38 +0000 UTCIt was filmed in Alberta, Canada. I went there just 2 months before COVID shut the world down. It was freezing, but it was beautiful. I need to go back in the summer.

2023-11-28 02:55:34 +0000 UTCNot sure if she realized Fitzgerald is played by Tom Hardy. That is understandable though, he can be such a chameleon. Great reaction. Was my mom's favorite movie. A 3.5 out of 5.

2023-11-27 21:29:39 +0000 UTCSo this movie is based on the true story of Hugh Glass. He did survive being mauled by a bear, and he did travel alone 200-300 miles alone with a broke leg, back to civilization. He did not, however, have a native american son. He did go after Fitzgerald but only to get his guns back. Glass forgave Fitzgerald and Bridger. About the movies production, it was filmed only using natural light, that is why it looked so good. It also made making the movie a real pain because they could only film during certain parts of the day.

2023-11-27 19:50:01 +0000 UTCHere for the first western adjacent movie, such as it is, on the channel! Can't wait, although I have to - work and such - but looking forward to this one tonight.
