This marks the end of Arc 1. Obviously the story will continue as usual, this is just a nice break-off point. It's definitely not as dramatic as the end of Arc 1 of Mother of Learning, but I liked how it turned out. I think the the end still serves nicely as a break point, even if its only hinting at later trouble.

By the time he sent a delegation to the tower, it was no longer news to him that Marcus was Rank 7, so why would he ask them about that? But it *was* news that he had Iris around.

2025-08-25 10:16:33 +0000 UTCThanks for the chapter and interludes. Good stuff. Plenty of foreshadowing to go around about waaaaay to much to go over in one comment. We at least now have full confirmation that the whole thing about magical trees trying to wipe out humanoid life was not only true, but apparently even extended to over worlds before they got taken out. It was pretty obvious, but it's nice to be sure. The students are coming along well and can finally cast basic magic, Marcus finally has access to the wood element magic that the Sacred Oak has managed to gather over millenia for the low price of keeping it entertained, he still has a divine giant corpse in his basement that could cause a huge stir by itself, along with old enemies being up to no good and new one's waiting in the wings. Not a bad way to round off the first arc. I'm looking forward to seeing how things go next. Now it's a given that this "puzzle-key" is one of those clearly mystical items that Renatus picked up at that junk shop, the question is, which one? The obvious choice is the puzzle box which he is probably going to let Claudia try to solve, but that might be too easy. Which leaves the crude stone bird sculpture, the iron lantern and the scroll with a spiral tower drawn on it. I'm curious which it'll be. They said they knew about it because the other 4 keys had "awoken from dormancy" so the key Renatus has likely started doing something after arriving on Tasloa. And it would be just like him to hide it and try to figure it out himself, wouldn't it?
