I like this episode a lot for the insight we get into Brennan as a character, but I always forget what an asshole Michael (her former professor) is on the stand, talking trash about her as a scientist and as a person. What a dick.

I was thinking just before how the crime-solving aspect of this show doesn’t seem that interesting to me yet, when I compare it to the only other procedural on the channel I started watching along with Travis which is Criminal Minds. But Temperance is a very interesting character so I liked that in this one we got to see her having to figure out how to convey her findings to a jury. Doing this involves perspective-taking and represents a very real communication dilemma for many autistic folks. As another commenter said it sucks that it so often seems to fall on neurodivergent people to have to mold to neurotypicals. That jury consultant really was awful. I get she was doing her job but damn. Booth was nicer about giving Bones feedback but he could also be more direct when she is specifically asking him for feedback, rather than dancing around. Even doing that implies that there is something wrong with her communication style when really it’s just different from a lot of other people’s and should be looked at with curiosity rather than criticism. I think when it comes to justice systems they’d be a lot more effective if juries were made up of more detail-oriented, objective thinkers like autistics. Food for thought 😆
