2025-09-01 15:53:39 +0000 UTCI've got a lot of nit-picky issues with the writing of this episode (including some that you pointed out), but overall I thought it was a fine pilot. (Not great, but fine.) What I loved most was that the secondary lab characters got some decent screen time and personalities of their own, enough that made me want to see more of them and learn more about each of them. And I liked the general humor which is always a bonus.

Mom has been gone for 5 and a half years and revisiting this show brings lots of warm memories of the two of us watching it together. Happy to watch you discover this wonderful show!!

The series is very loosely based on the life and novels of forensic anthropologist Kathy Reichs, who also produced the show. Temperance "Bones" Brennan is named after the protagonist of the novels, and, in the show, she writes a successful mystery novel featuring a fictional forensic anthropologist named Kathy Reichs. The real Kathy was an expert witness in the Casey Anthony murder trial. She was reluctant to get involved, but later agreed and performed a full skeletal analysis of Casey's daughter, Caylee, but could not determine a cause of death. She concluded that there was no evidence of abuse and that the child appeared to be well-nourished. Emily Deschanel (Brennan/Bones) is the sister of actress and singer-songwriter Zooey Deschanel (from New Girl and various movies). Emily has been in movies such as Boogeyman, Easy (with Naveen Andrews who plays Sayid on LOST) & The Perfect Family and appeared in minor roles in Spider-Man 2, Cold Mountain & My Sister's Keeper, as well as starring in Rose Red (miniseries based on a Stephen King novel), Animal Kingdom & Devil in Ohio. Emily & David Boreanaz (Agent Booth) co-produced the show.
