I understand wanting to see people's expressions and pay attention to artistic detail: I also struggle with that when watching subbed... but the acting quality is often night and day. Japanese voice artists literally spend their *entire lives* training in what is inarguably the most competitive VA scene in the world. They are top class, completely unmatched, and it completely changes the vibe and dynamic of anime once you get used to it. This is especially the case with more modern anime (made in 2012 and beyond). There was a significant, noticeable drop in the quality of dubs, and it frankly made a lot of anime completely unwatchable to me until I finally switched to subs. Luckily, Death Note is one of the few dubs that I really enjoy and think it's close enough in quality to the JP version.

2025-05-22 19:18:53 +0000 UTCThanks for the vid! Youβre getting too good at the apple bite π Didnβt wanna hijack the other comment, but since you asked about other anime worth checking out, here are some good ones that you would enjoy and that would have stuff to look into as a therapist/trauma specialist: Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, Psycho-Pass. If you want a movie to put into the mix, βA Silent Voiceβ is an amazing one that deals with depression, s*icide, disability, bullying, etc.

2025-05-22 11:01:09 +0000 UTCDeath Note is the anime a lot of people claim as the first anime they thouroughly enjoyed. It has a lot of the subject matter of other animes (like Dragon Ball for example, but Death Note portrays its "Battles" a lot different to the usual punchy-kicks and Coldplay-Concert-Lasershows). Once people understand that those animes are not about the fight, but rather the journey, they enjoy them a lot more. And then there are things like One Punch Man, which turns the fighting/journey on its head. And animes like Mob Psycho 100 (same author as One Punch Man) which goes hard into the journey and the reluctancy to fight. Mob Psycho 100 would be my next suggestion for you after Death Note. It has a ton of things that a psychiatrist/psychologist/whatever (not sure what the difference is to be honest) could give great insights for. Especially with the titular character Mob. It also only has 3 seasons (37 episodes total) and is already over. Edit: I'm just at 3:50mins, but Mob Psycho 100 also has some insanely great banger intros. I love reacting to music producers listening to the three Mob Psycho 100 themes and losing their mind.
