If you want fanfiction recommendations, the are my favourite reads. I hope you give them a try: "Fangs Of Fortune: Curse Breakers" by (it is available in both Wattpad and AO3) - It is a fix-it fic, that starts from episodes 24 and 25. It centers around ZhuYi/YiZhu (Zhu Yan x Yichen). But there is some love for PeiWen (Pei Sijing x Wen Xiao) as well. [Also Yichen and Zhu Yan are switches in it.] Also it is nearly finished, there are only extras incoming. *Plus Bing Yi and Ying Long are their past lives of ZhuYi. "Love you forever and ever" & "I will always find you" by Shiber3605 (It is a available in both Wattpad and AO3) - Both are fix-it fics that have reincarnation involved, aka Bing Yi and Ying Long are their past lives. They are complete and have really sweet endings, so you don't have to worry about feeling sad like in the show. Finally there are the fanfiction ongoing fanfics: "Demonic Spirit Guardians" & "Frostlight Once Again" by Kaierin2311 (Only available on Wattpad, sorry but they're really good). Both are rewrites, with "Demonic Spirit Guardians" being a what if Zhu Yan and Yichen died, but were brought back as gods in-sync with each other. While "Frostlight Once Again" is a time travel story, a what if Zhuo Yixuan (Yichen's brother) went back into the past having seen everything that happened, as well as Yichen's eventual death. Now he must rectify the past, stopping all of the tragedies from happening. But he won't be alone, he'll have the help of an unexpected demon (Li Lun). It is still a ZhuYi fanfic, but there is also LiXuan/XuanLi in it (a new but interesting pair). And there's "Meeting under the snow covered tree" by Mun Birdy (available on Wattpad and AO3). Description: Li Lun had a reason for his hatred towards the new alliance between the Demon Hunting Bureau and the Great Demon, Zhu Yan. How could the young master of the bureau, Zhuo Yichen, form a bond with the man who destroyed his life that fateful night. The man who killed the previous wielder of the Cloud Light sword. [The author explained that it is the first part of the 'Blood Moon Cycle' Saga. The second part will be ZhuYi/YiZhu, third will be PeiWen's, fouth will be SiLei, and fifth will be a fanfic that will give everyone a happy ending (as the other four are quite canon complying, so... People still die in them)]

FoF is up there with Word of Honor and Untamed for me as well - which caught me completely by surprise. I feel that with Ep. 34 they were like: This is the story we CAN give you. And with the Special they kind of said: This is the story we'll leave you with - a piece of paper with Zhu Yan's soul in Zhou Yichen's hand, a glowing sword and the beginning of a smile. ๐ However, even with the main body of the show I feel that in the end, they let the subtext overwrite the text. I'm pretty sure that it was deliberate. I'm amazed at what they managed to give us. It's such a beautiful, heartwrenching tale - not only the two best boys, but all of it. I adore it completely.

But yeah, the extra for this is at least some balm for the soul and rather long for an extra episode. I know that some people see the Wen Xiao/Zhu Yan/Zhuo Yichen relationship as an polyamourous V thing. Of course that's a perfectly valid view on the show. But for me Wen Xiao is the biggest beard in all of cdrama history. She feels tagged on in a lot of ways and I'm quite sure that we would have gotten a pure bl drama without the restrictions. Perhaps this is wishful thinking, but I like my wishful thinking. It's not like we are drowning in a lot of queer coded shows at the moment. In that regard (and a few others, the show is just beautiful to look at) Fangs of Fortune was a very nice surprise last year. I'd love to hear some of your thoughts on this after you've had a chance to let it all sink in.

2025-05-31 19:49:28 +0000 UTCep 35 you've made it!! :') yes queerest 'straight' CDrama haha :3 The ep34 ending with Zhu Yan looking at Yichen as his last glance & being the rain for everyone was already poetic, but ep 35 rlly gave us some hope for our broken hearts and esp the BL vibes <3 (tho I was a crying mess on rewatch still, esp Yichen & Bai Jiu scenes wreck me still T_T ) If you're in the mood/have time I'd love to hear more about your thoughts to FoF in a video essay :) thank you for your reactions, glad the show got enough votes so we could enjoy this journey with you ^^

As if!! This will forever be a BL/GL for me! And I love your reactions. I jsut finished watching your word of honor reactions also and I love how you caught the different expressions and looks and your analysis is always great even if you think you overthink stuff but it's sometimes good to overthink and then be wrong than not understanding at all. I don't find many cdrama reactors and I am so glad you do cdrama reactions and a lot of them. I am very excited for your new cdrama reaction. Which one have you chosen to do to replace Fangs of Fortune?

The deaths just kept coming and I was absolutely exhausted when this epi aired and even on rewatch I'm still crying esp for our bb doctor :')

In fact if you ever rewatch The Yin-Yang Master: Dream of Eternity after Fangs of Fortune you will notice quite some similarities between Qing Ming & Bo Ya and Zhu Yan & Zhuo Yichen (and the overall themes of both stories). The former pair feels a bit like a prototype version of the latter.

He wants to kill all demons but also craves the demonic power coz it is more powerful than what humans possess..Hypocrisy!!!..that same demonic power is what killed his family and he is supposed to not like it but he craves it and also wants to use it to bring destruction while hating demons who are born with those power and use them, he isn't even born with those power. And not all demons are bad though their power brings destruction without the demon's choice like Fei and this guy supposedly hate all demons but is okay to use Fei for his plague causing blood.. HYPOCRITE!!

I mean even in posters, they show 5 of the members and not yinglei which already made me think the show doesn't treat yinglei as a big enough character and somehow i forget those characters always have a bad ending and so his death, I didn't see coming and it hurt so much!

2025-05-19 17:46:55 +0000 UTCep 30 sending you a hug!!!! :') OMG I genuinly forgot it was THIS plot in ep 30 because I live in constant denial about Yinglei T_T Honestly personally I kinda hate it, cause what do you mean Zhu Yan brought Li Lun's Pagoda root and instead of telling him this clearly he made it seem like he expected Li Lun to leave Bai Jiu's body to die?! ugh it was such a 'we need this fight so we can kill Yinglei'-plot device I wish they'd handled that differently T_T also yes while Yichen doesn't have healing powers he now has demonic energy so I rlly wish they'd tryyy to do an energy transfer trying to save YingLei? aaaanyway, I'm just gonna be a bit salty about this part sorry rant over ^^ haha yes for me personally FoF is rlly up there in my top fav shows (yes Word of Honor too), cause while I have multiple parts I can rant about, it got me so emotionally invested it was difficult to move on from the show (as you can see by the way I'm still rambling about it on rewatch lol) I overall LOVE the found family & A+ bromance and adore the charas :')

2025-05-14 02:58:53 +0000 UTCep 29 uff that epi had me an emotional wreck when it aired and I still teared up on rewatch XD I think Zhu Yan realised that something was up when he took the drink, cause I too assumed on 1. watch that Yichen might've done something to the drinks and Zhu Yan was willing to accept it ^^ I loved their whole 'soulmate' & 'drinks of gratitude' moment so much <3 <3 (also sooo well acted, all the subtle changes in movement & in their eyes damn) no it's ok I get where you're coming from with Wen Xiao and agree & I sadly don't know why they couldn't flesh her out in a clearer way in some parts (some people wanted to say the director just can't do justice to women but I disagree with that he showed us 4(+) ladies in My Journey To You that were distinct their own person and I loved them, so yeah sigh) lol yes justice for Ying Lei being 'forgotten' in their count of groupmembers, there were so many theories of why XD Li Lun & Ao Yin got me soft :') (damn I hope I didn't add too much to you being spoilered, srry if I did, I try to write my replies from a 'what did I think of that epi during 1. watch' POV but Idk if always successful XD)

And Bingyi and Yin long are their ancestors.

2025-05-10 12:06:31 +0000 UTCep 28 their plan was to kill Zhu Yan with the CloudLight sword because it 'purifies' (or something) the malicious energy, otherwise if he's just killed in a random way the malicious energy will look for a new vessel. the acting scene!! lol I remember when the drama aired they used Ying Lei's line as epi preview and damnnnn~ too many people were hating on him instead of simply waiting till next epi XD but yes the acting scene and Yichen showing his true feelings for Zhu Yan and willing to protect him against the others is chefskiss for the BL/bromance side, even if the rest is a mess lol

2025-05-09 14:39:54 +0000 UTCep 27 yeah I love this epi & the tragic kinda love story of Bingyi & Ying Long :') (I interpreted it as re-incarnations, why they choose to tell the story with the same faces and could also make the 'killing the great demon with the CloudLight sword is not just a prophecy but a curse'-plot point a curse consistent through the ages :') haha your mind went to bathroom break, my mind went to mpreg joke, because Wen Xiao looks at Zhu Yan like 'what did you do to him' before Yichen says he feels his core haha the woman with the cool voice is Bai Jiu's mum, while I love the BL(GL) heavy storyline of the these 2 epis I'm a bit miffed that they handle her return in such a throw-away-plot-point way ^^

The subtext is basically jumping from the screen at the watchers in this one. Guo Jingming really loves his parallelisms, not only on a visual level, and here you get the full force of the Zhu Yan/Zhuo Yichen & Ying Long/Bing Yi ones.

2025-05-02 20:07:28 +0000 UTCep 26 Yes Yes they fed us so well with this and I won't change my mind: they did their very best to give us almost-BL/GL... if it weren't for censorship...but at least the ambiguity also makes it so fun as polyships :3 The 'Please don't die' moment still gets to me even on rewatch, rlly have to take a moment with that cause it says SOOO much about what Yichen feels in regards to Zhu Yan now compared to the start of their relationship, but it also hurts so bad to see him so desperate! Honestly when I watched the freezing scene for the 1. time I had to giggle, it was such a 'troll' to have them seem free for 1 sec just to freeze both...downsides of the immunity to Zhu Yan's spells XD

But personally I also enjoy the toxic fun that is Li Lun/Yichen haha (besides Zhu Yan/Yichen obv) :) forgot to answer it in a last reply: humans in this universe have no cores (they can't cultivate cores).

2025-04-29 18:44:05 +0000 UTCep 24 yeah it's one of the weakpoints of the show to me that at some parts they don't quite bring across the urgency and that some plotdevelopments depend too much on a 'dumbing down charas'-actions when in other parts it was unfolding in more cohesive & interesting ways ... The switch to younger Yichen is so fascinating to me, like sure they can help along a bit with filter, but Tian Jiarui rlly can turn into a cutie-bb face as proven in reality shows and in behind the scenes of his upcoming drama Veil Of Shadows (playing multiple charas or a chara at different stages Idk cause I didn't want to spoil myself too much besides looking at pretty people in pretty robes XD will be the same director and also include Yanan (Li Lun's actor), Cheng Duling (Wen Xiao) and Joseph Zeng (Ultimate Note, Mysterious Lotus Casebook) :D ...sorry short ramble I'm just so hyped for Veil of Shadows lol Hope you enjoyed your time away :)

2025-04-18 09:52:22 +0000 UTCep 20-22 I'm sorry but I had to laugh at your 'I'm stressed I hope you enjoyed it' cause yes it's honestly super entertaining to see others try to keep up with the rollercoaster of the show (but that was also me when the show aired, so def feel you). But I also cried with you, I don't think I'll ever stop being emotional for this show T_T I'll forever hype the little moments of Zhu Yan in malicious energy mode giving Yichen just a headpat instead of trying to hurt him (during red moon) and now Yichen's voice being the only thing still getting through to him and Zhu Yan's decision to go into seclusion instead of attacking him/the group :) Yeah the shadow play scene comedy didn't rlly work for me, but at least it was a spectacle to proof Wen Xiao's innocence Ig, meh... But Ying Lei did mention that Ao Yin has the power to influence your mind and that was their 'drugged state'.

I guess I'm just disappointed and confused by Wen Xiao's characterization and it makes it hard to try and figure out her point of view for me.

2025-04-09 10:59:05 +0000 UTCep 18 to Wen Xiao's answer about upfront 'evilness' of demons, I don't think she disregards the kindness of demons like Fei, but views them by their base traits in this answer and Fei brought the plague by his mere existence, while humans seem more harmless upfront, but can hide many facettes of ill intentions/evil. Overall I'd see demons in this universe more connected to their 'instincts/true form' and then a bit like toddlers throwing tantrums since they have to learn emotions via cultivations through 1000s of years. so the demons that haven't reached that level yet or can't even take human form yet too can be more overtly 'dangerous' to coexistence with humans ... I think the writing & utilization for wen xiao could've been better, overall but I think in these moments they also just want to show that being the 'Baize Goddess' with true fairness is also a goal that she has to work towards & learn through experience, she might've the basic requirements of being the goddess but she's not automatically a wise deity and has to work through her own issues too ^^ oh and yes Li Lun is def the wrathful ex haha <3

2025-04-09 10:56:49 +0000 UTCto ep 14 & 15 *sips my coffee and nods along with your speculations* I like listening to your ideas, I just don't know how to comment on them without giving anything away, so I'm just gonna say: I had slightly similar speculations about Bai Jiu on my 1. watch and some similar frustrations about Wen Xiao's charactarization lol also I totally replayed their partner sword-dance multiple times & I loved that as much as Yichen wants to hide behind his walls he otoh opens up to Zhu Yan and even shows his concern (in grumpy cat style) ;) being distracted by all the beautiful robes & Tian Jiarui/Yichen is still happening even in my rewatches lol

Fei thinking Qing Geng might resent/hate him always get's me T_T (forgot to write it last epi, but you mentioned the actress of Qing Geng Ai Mi and yeah have seen her in 2 other shows so far and she's amazing, just was shocked to learn that she's still so young (~16) ^^) yes they mentioned it a few epis ago: Wen Xiao's body is a bit more stable due to Zhu Yan/the other half of the Baize Token being close. And Yichen is a bit more durable thx to his Bingyi clan blood ^^ The groups' relationships evolving is one of my fav parts :)

This was one of my fav scenes for these 2, but still more to come :) yep this storyline had me so sad for Fei, his mere existence causing the plague is a cruel & depressing fate...

2025-03-13 21:57:16 +0000 UTCep 10: Yes all the quiet moments between the caracters are so great, like at the end of this episode with Zhao Yuanzhou and Wen Xiao, and Zhuo Yichen and Bai Jiu. Also I love how we see very slowly Yichen warming up to Zhao Yuanzhou, like earlier when he gave him the jade after learning what Yuanzhou needed it for, and now with the pear soup. Wen Xiao had indeed already gotten hers, so Yichen was truly bringing the soup to Yuanzhou (and got so cutely flustered when they pointed this out). This time it wasn't even under a pretence that he was returning some favour like with the jade. About the ape thing, I wonder if it's indeed a missed opportunity by the shows part, or if it is so widely known part of the chinese mythology that the core audience is expected to not need as many reminders. From what I have understood Zhuyan has been an important mythological character since ancient times. If someone knows more of this, please feel free to correct me/add more info!^^

Baize order only has like 1 big power which is a bind that help the owner control demons, no matter how strong the demon is. It's an "order". It is not a specific power which is special to each demons.

2025-03-07 16:53:11 +0000 UTCto ep9: this time your own mic was a bit soft compared to the show audio ^^ (not rlly relevant, but since it kept your mind a bit busy: I thought 1 arrow was slapped away + 1 arrow caught by Heng ^^) not a spoiler, just it was mentioned in the epi: the original Baize Token was managed by 'the purest human' and the 'strongest Great Demon' together to manage The Wilderness. so it's not his wish/puppetmaster-skills specific that got him the position but being the strongest Great Demon at that time ^^ otherwise I'm keeping quiet cause the hints are being given & story is being build haha, it unfolds along the way, not meant to be fully understood yet, so have fun to speculate, we all did when the show aired :) but rewatching it is really fun too, cause now the understanding of it all is there the moment a hint is given ^^

They sing the ending credit song as group and also sing their own chara songs :) I'm biting my tongue on any chara discussion & give up on trying to formulate a reply without even a hint of spoiler XD

Jingxiao's relationship is so precious, you can see that while Pei Sijing is warming up to the whole group, she feels special connection to Wen Xiao ah MY GIRLSSS <3 And the swing metaphor!!! Establishing this relationship between WX/ZYZ/ZYC! Zhao Yuanzhou of course pushes the swing for Wen Xiao which is to be expected of them. BUT then he wants his swing to be pushed by Zhuo Yichen who then actually does it! AND then Zhao Yuanzhou says he would do it for Yichen too! I love how Wen Xiao just watches as her boys bicker/flirt with a happy smile. (And at least in English, there's the whole other meaning for swinging when it comes to relationships, so it's even more fitting here.) Honestly one of my favourite things about this story is how relatively fairly it treats the f/f, m/m and f/m pairs, we get important and sweet moments with each of the pairs (and all together as a polycule and found family). And even if the the contract between Wen Xiao and Zhao Yuanzhou might get frustrating, it does "force" the f/m pair to keep their affection to a certain level just like our f/f and m/m pairs are due to censorship. And I think it's quite clever excuse for not letting the f/m overshadow the queer relationships. I don't know if it was intented, but that's at least how I see it working. Also our beloved little mountain god, Ying Lei, is finally here!

Also yes, the kid is VERY HIGH PITCHED and that's one thing I do not enjoy haha, but (Im still watching) I love this show. It's very beautiful, bisexual, and has a lot of similar themes as Yin Yang Master which I also love.

2025-02-16 00:09:03 +0000 UTCto ep 3: ohhhhh~ legend of excorcism with that director would be a 'yes please' if current censorship weren't a thing :') being distracted by Yichen is very valid imho, an edit of Tian Jiarui's aesthetic of his My Journey To You chara (same director) was honestly the reason I checked out that show back then: 0 regrets, loved MJTY (and then FoF) and still adore little sunshine Jiarui in his costume drama aesthetic haha (esp the robes + hair-accessoires) not commenting on anything else cause I don't want to slip up on anything even slightly spoilery with so much being set-up, but it's def fun to watch along :)

The team dynamics are all dissing the resident great demon, which is daring, considering that he could kill them all with one word. The contract Zhu Yan signed for Wen Xiao with his blood states that his soul will vanish if he breaks it, so he will essentially die, if he can't protect her or any of that other stuff. That's what he means with that. Demon lore, it's so exciting. Re-watching this with you I notice so many brilliant things already being set up for later. And yes, that mask is sooo creepy. Thanks for the fun! โฅ

Love your view on the discussion between Wen Xiao and Zhu Yan and how truthful he was. I saw their relationship very much like MLM/WLW solidarity in the beginning, but they grow on you. This director/writer is very good with love in all it's forms, which is very nice. Zhu Yan is very patient with all these young humans, but he's also having a lot of fun. Despite the fact he really wants to die... that scene is sooo well written and played. Your thoughts were mine exactly. Is it a good idea to release that energy into the world? But they don't seem to be worries about it, sooo... Looking forward to next episode :) Thank you โฅ

2025-02-07 10:01:34 +0000 UTCto ep 2: yay already a new reaction thanks! could understand you better considering audio this time :) Wen Xiao is as 'straight' as they need her to be to pass censorship (but otherwise none of them are straight I'd say ;P) and she's def bi/pan in my headcanon and also Ig in the writers'/director's considering the amount of bromance & sismance we got in this show lol to the Chongwu Camp, when they showed up it was mentioned as evidence against them that they sell demon fur/blood/etc on the black market thx to their demon hunts, so the demon blood on the document isn't exactly a 'cooperation with a demon' more a 'whoops another dead demon' ^^

Two things: 1) The actors actually sing their theme songs, so the beautiful music in the scenes with Wen Xiao and the rabbit girl, that's actually Chen Du Ling singing. 2) Did you recognize the actor playing Mr. Fan, Wen Xiao's father? Because it took me almost 30 eps and then got me screaming: "OMG, OMG, it's HIM!" out loud...
