no what Rachel meant is when his parents died he no longer saw him self as bruce wayne anymore only batman thats why she said bruce wayne is the mask because he is batman in his mind there is no bruce wayne

In regards to your question on why the league of shadows chose him is simply because he is the richest man in Gotham which would make him the best pawn to use to destroy Gotham (through influence). Itβs not that heβs βworthyβ but simply its because of his status within Gothams society.
