Bebop Your Blues - Jazzy I to IV Transition Lick

Hello friends,

welcome back to Swiftlessons for another lick of the week tutorial! In today's session we'll be examining a jazzy I to IV transition lick in the key of B major. Studying this useful phrase will reveal essential jazz lead techniques including:  

β€’ The minor second (upper neighbor) root note substitution. 

β€’ Chromatic walkups to chord tones.  

β€’ Chord arpeggiation.

β€’ Rest stroke picking technique.

Tablature:

In this example, we see how our lick of the week can be applied to a standard jazz-blues chord progression. In this case, it's being used as a transition between the I chord B7 and the IV chord E9.
