right, been some time, been working on and finally completed the poll coat highpoly model.
it's actually a lot more complex than it looks. Quite complicated seams/construction and as always the fact that it's open so the inside is showing adds to the workload since that needs to be modeled too. The collar was somewhat annoying to deal with too since it's folded on itself. I would've hoped I could get this done sooner, but it kept dragging on and there's a bit more still to go.
that being said, I think the time was well spent, it's decently accurate to the movie coat. There's a strap with a buckle missing on the other side of the collar, but since it's normally tucked in I didn't take the time to model that too. Other than that, I'd normally also do the stitching in the highpoly phase, but I'll leave that for the texturing stage this time to get this done a bit faster.
the only thing left to mention here is the fur on the collar/lapels. I'll very likely be using a alpha layering technique that I've noticed being used in some games like RDR2 for example. Since that is mostly a texturing/lowpoly trick that creates fake depth, there's not a whole lot to do on the highpoly side. I'm interested to see how that plays out, as I've never tried it before. Here's hoping that goes well.
