Serial Experiments Lain

The Serial Experiments Lain video is finished! I felt like weeping (tears of joy) when the processing completed on YouTube and there were no restrictions on it. I was worried about copyright and meticulously edited the anime portion of the video, cropping footage, looping short clips, and driving myself crazy with how long that was taking. I was also worried about the content, since the Lain game is pretty dark, and I had to edit a couple of cutscenes because I saw videos of them on their own were flagged on YouTube as age-restricted. Right now things are in the clear, and I hope it stays that way.

So I talk about the anime, the game, the supplemental books, a bunch of other series and games, a weird website, a VR art exhibit (thanks to High Foodcourt for the footage and extra resources on that), and more!

I don't think it's possible to cover everything about Lain in one video (even if it is almost 3 hours long). There's a lot of stuff that I only touched on and tons more I probably missed or forgot to talk about or didn't realize that I didn't talk about, so I'm looking forward to the comments and discussions on this one.

I want to thank all of you for making this video possible. Really. If it weren't for you, I would have never been able to take 2 months to make this thing.

The next few videos are going to be simpler and quicker, and I'm planning to finish another bonus Dungeon Dwellers Archive video in the near future too. So until next time, I hope you enjoy Serial Experiments Lain.

Dungeon Chill. Out.

Lain was one of my favorite animes growing up, it's still probably one of the ones I would pick if someone asked me what my favorite is. I love that dark weird shit, and Lain was really unique at its time. Even if the narrative isn't the most comprehensible I think what I liked about Lain (compared to, in my eyes, other popular philosophical animes of the time like Eva) is that there's a certain emotional sense to how things turn out in it. Maybe teenage me just really related to the sense of alienation and dissociation in the show, but I felt like at least emotionally Lain's decisions make sense by the end. In any case, I really appreciate your deep dive on the topic, this was like a dissertation on Lain and I love it, haha. I had no idea there was a Lain game, but I'm glad I found out this way rather than playing it. This was the video that got me to check out your channel and now I'm a subscriber. I very much appreciate your thoughtful analysis and chill straightforward approach to explaining things.
