June 25 Update

Hey, everybody! I'm back, not dead or lost at sea or anything. Alright, let's just check my email...

Not so many for a week, and there are lots of flight notifications and stuff. Let's see how my Sierra Lee address is doing...

Whew boy, but I guess that's to be expected with an update out. Let's hope the automated post over at Sarah Lin went well...

I'm being somewhat facetious, of course. ^-^ I'm currently on top of all emails, those are just screenshots of what I returned to mid-week, and a partial explanation for why I didn't get out new builds of the recent TLS update this weekend.

So, my vacation. I took the opportunity to do some athletic things it's probably better to attempt while I'm still relatively young. I ate some foods I've never tried before and some fruit I definitely have but you can't get perfectly ripe in northern climates. I saw some natural wonders that are currently being destroyed and are forecast to be gone within my generation. Overall it was certainly a worthwhile experience I don't regret.

Am I more relaxed, though? I hope I'm recharged in some deeper sense, because not really. Obviously adapting to new places and plans isn't going to be as mentally easy as staying in a highly optimized environment. Also capped things off with the most cursed flight in my personal experience (though mild by overall aviation standards).

You know what has been relaxing? Catching up on things at a leisurely pace, not pushing too hard on anything, just handling stuff. I truly enjoyed reading all the comments I missed and doing some less focused work. All kinds of stuff to prepare for.

So if I get back into gear with the TLS update next week, the vacation will have taken a significant chunk out of my productivity this month. Will I be going on more vacations? Not sure; I'm not as travel-driven as some people but there are some more things I want to do.

Anyway, reorienting... I'll be making the newest TLS update public and shifting forward to a new set of work. More information next week!

that screenshot has some real "12 missed calls from dad" vibes

Fixed, thanks!

Hello! Welcome back. Found this one talking to Strevin after Eustrin's independece. Seems to be his final dialogue. * "enough" gets repeated https://imgur.com/a/P4KA5oQ

Thanks! It's always nice to hear that a section landed for someone. ^-^

Sierra Lee

happy that at least you enjoyed yourself Sierra. I did not get the opportunity to say it before, but the lattest update was very fun. The Underwater dungeon was a blast to play through.

Beltux

Vacation, vacation.... Yeah, I heard about that thing. Isnt it something naughty they do in France?

Dark Art

Congratulations! Sounds like you have a routine that's working for you, so just keep at it!

Sierra Lee

How do we know this is the REAL Sierra Lee posting? After what we saw demonstrated last week, this could be Robo-Sierra posting again and the original Sierra Lee has been sent on permanent “vacation” by her evil robotic counterpart!

WaxerRed

I hope you were able to enjoy yourself! And I'm glad you're able to get back into the swing of things at a reasonable rate; I was a little worried in your earlier post where you said taking a vacation would just mean you would have to make up for lost time when you got back. That's not how vacations work, please don't do that ;_;

Impressive! Nice job.

It's been a long time since I've taken a real vacation. Almost as long since I've been able to afford one. Oh well... Good news from DL7land is I'm now down 95 lbs since 9/24. Still a long way to go to "a girlish 230".

I usually find that travelling for a holiday makes me want to take another holiday at home to recover. Please take all the time you need to recharge your batteries!

Good on you for taking a break. Highly productive people like their comfort zones, and vacations take you out of them by definition. You should consider making your vacation an annual thing in the same month of the year, every year; the predictability makes planning easier, allows you to coordinate with friends, and you'll find yourself making plans when you come across interesting things ("maybe next year I can go see this..."). The workcation "at my own pace" thing is real. I recall once I had a feature that I really, really wanted to add to a project at work that had been back-burnered for over a year; I ended up in the hospital for a couple weeks, and after I'd done all the reading/gaming I could stand I used my "down time" to implement the darn thing. No way it would have gotten done otherwise, and it was extremely satisfying to get it in. It might not be a bad idea to schedule a week of unscheduled work every 3 months or so, a window with no deliverables where you can scratch what itches you.
