OEA Trailer (again)

New OEA trailer. Originally I was going to put up some little TLS animations along with it, but Patreon won't let you do that. =/ That treat will wait for later, I guess.

Anyway, this is meant as a rough draft of the whole premise, but I just received it today, so there wasn't time for any of my feedback. For example, I didn't ask for the panning shot across the chibi, and I don't think it works well, but there was no time for this to be reflected in a new draft. The editor apparently added it because they needed to fill time (to match the music, I think?). They also want me to stress that they intend to add polish later, such as fixing some improper cropping of certain clips. This is meant to be a content-focused preview.

All feedback welcome, but I have a few questions:

1) Right now there are no transitions between the major sections (intro, gameplay, teasers). I'm not sure what they should be, unless we do more page flipping. The editor has also proposed title cards, but I'm unsure if they're the best method.

2) Originally I was imagining that the final section would include text explicitly listing the game's features (20-30 hours of gameplay, 200+ custom maps, 25+ scenes, etc). Editor didn't get this memo, but I suppose it's a good chance to ask if you think it's a good idea?

3) One thing we didn't discuss was the inclusion of CGs. The editor chose to include a ton, but very highly cropped so they're technically SFW. I am too tired to know what I think of this.

4) The editor felt like the footage I gave them didn't quite stretch, and requested the following:

I'll eventually do these myself, but if anyone has a screen recorder and wants to tackle some, I'd be grateful. I can't promise it will help the TLS update, since everything is getting delayed until that's done, but it would take something off my mental plate.

In any case, the main purpose of this post is to receive general feedback about the shape of the trailer before we do further refinements.

OEA Trailer (again)

Comments

Late feedback is still appreciated! I hope you enjoy when you play.

I know I'm a bit late, but this looks really good! As it is, I might swap the battle and map sections to show the maps first. At least to me personally, plain turnbased RPG combat isn't the most unique/flashy thing and when I see it in most RPG trailers I tend to assume it's 80% of the gameplay and lose interest if I don't see anything new/really exciting. That's just my personal experience though, and its the only critique I could really come up with; still haven't gotten to actually playing OEA yet, but I'm excited to try it when I have more time. :)

Thanks for the feedback! I think your idea about the last text is an interesting one.

Sierra Lee

Neat! But I feel something odd, dont know what or why.

Feedback: - First, this looks way better! Congrats! There is obviously some work to be done but significant progress has been made and you should be happy with that progress. - Second, I mentioned last time that my wife struggled to keep up with the text. I asked my wife to also watch this trailer and without prompting she told me she felt that the text speed and pacing of the video was much better. She was able to read everything comfortably. - 0:26 Ulfina's text disappears quickly and isn't replaced with new text until 0:29. I'd leave the first round of her text longer if possible. Until it is changed to her second line if possible. - 0:33 - 0:53 combat animations still drop frames. This is still the worst part of the trailer for me personally. - 1:02 - 1:10 same with the wandering around on the map. - 1:11 HAPPY ULFINA! She looks great. :) - 1:37 Unsure if you want this spoiled but the "Infinite Girls, Infinite Wolves, One Ending." section could have the "One Ending." text scramble like the beginning section to change to "One Ending...?" or something since there a true ending. Regarding your questions: 1. The lack of transitions seemed fine to me. 2. I don't think it is needed. I'd look for this info on the store page if I wanted it. I would recommend it go there though. 3. The art is very high quality IMO. I don't think including the CGs is an issue. I'm not sure whether them being cropped like they are is ideal or not. It didn't bother me personally. 4. I don't see any issues with including these items. They might add some nice variety.

Thanks for the feedback!

Thanks for the feedback! Good thought about using a forging event.

Sierra Lee

That was worlds better! I like it, and not just for the biased reason that my spritework was in it for a vanishing second.

I don't think more transitions or title cards are necessary for this kind of trailer, since it's more about grabbing the viewer's attention and giving a taste of the gameplay. If you did add anything, I'd just go for a page-turning transition. Similarly, I don't think a feature list is especially important, given that those kinds of details will be readily available on the Steam store page, where they'll be easier to read. I think the inclusion of CGs is a good idea, both to signal that this is a heavily adult-themed game and to act as a teaser to draw in the people who are primarily interested in that sort of thing. For the "acquiring an item" clip, maybe one of the forging events would be good, since that lets you show off the chibis that accompany them.

Thank you for providing feedback!

Hmm. I like it! I'm certain there could be many things to be nitpicky about but I think it's good. Makes the game feel grand and like it had a high production value~ :)
