December 16 Update

Public release went out okay. I intend to spend more time making qualitative changes based on feedback (which is still welcome), which will lead to either a special 0.40.6 release, or just included in 0.41.0. Not sure.

Thanks to all who went the extra mile and listened to audiobook narrators. Counting largely positive recommendations as votes, here are the results:

Sarah Colton - 9

Bryan Lamb - 7

Gary Bennett - 4

Seth Podowitz - 4

Matt Weight - 4

Meghan Kelly - 3

Others received a single recommendation or mixed comments, but it seems like these six broke away from the pack. To simplify things, I've sent everyone else a polite rejection and inquired for more info from these six. We'll see how things go.

Didn't manage to make any progress on 0.41.x content due to all the fixing. Did get some writing done.  I am pretty tired. I wish I could turn the internet off and just focus on working for a week, but that is not possible at this time. So might as well keep things moving and hope I can start fresh in 2019.

Comments

This is a reasonable suggestion, but I also want to be careful not to overuse a good track. Having said that, both the events you mention keep the area's normal music, so it might be something worth reconsidering.

Sierra Lee

Hope you enjoy, and thanks!

After reading the blog comments and seeing someone remark upon how tense the council is, and how the music adds to it, I feel the music is great in that role and might fit nicely in various earlier scenes. It would add tension to the time Ardford forces Simon to reveal himself, or maybe the planning right before the battle of Yhilin, it would make Balia falling asleep even funnier.

I finally got some time due to christmas vacations, though i already played a bit of the new content before, i just wasn't really able to "sink in" because of my tight schedule. Now at least i have once again time for gaming in general and TLS specifically :) Enjoy your break too, Sierra.

Jan Dietrich

Hmm, I forgot you could get it that early. I suppose this can be considered as Yarra gaining power she doesn't fully understand.

Sierra Lee

Thanks, I'm really happy to hear that! ^-^

Just noticed something on a playthrough in 40.5. Incubus King's Emissary can inflict Lust Death from the get-go even though the party first recognizes it during the third arclent war. I was fighting the Chosen in the Yhilin Slums and one shot him.

Runcible Technician

Been busy these last few months and missed the backer release of 40.x 40.5 has been amazing fun. Really enjoyed everything we did before paying off. Pretty much got everything that I wanted from the event.

Just don't overwork yourself, I prefer you take your time to improve the quality than to rush. If you need more time for anything, just take it. you always run into unexpected problems. A well-rested mind is much better at creative work anyway. ;)

I've been reading this situation as Esmera wanting to go all in, Simon wanting to argue against, and them both softening their positions by Esmera arguing for better care of the existing unpeople and Simon refraining from speaking out (see e.g. Vhala saying she's exhorted all her allies to speak against it). I do think that it might be better if she expected Simon to speak in favour of supporting existing Unpeople, though.

I don't think I'm surprised by the work involved, just surprised by how much I'm not enjoying it. Experiences other authors describe about falling in love with a performance or enjoying hearing the story brought to life have not manifested for me (rather, the opposite has occurred). Which significantly changes how I view the work involved with producing 13 hours of audio content. In any case, I appreciate the encouragement. I love what I do and want to do more of it.

0.40.5: Before the Unpeople vote, I ask Esmera to consider a softer approach, and she answers that she still expects me to uphold our deal, i.e. talk in favour of the vote. During the vote, I choose not to talk at all, and afterwards she still behaves as if I'd kept true to our alliance. Not sure if this is as intended or not, but it feels weird to me. Also, maybe you want to consider just reserving another month / update cycle for the council, postponing 0.41? Finishing the 3rd Arclent War in only two updates already was totally impressive, and I imagine this section to be even more headache-inducing for you. oO Fine-tuning this complex section shouldn't be done in a hurry, and also I'd like to imagine you getting some peace of mind at least over the holidays. ^^

I have a theory before Sierra possibly refutes me with the cannon. It could be the regenerative abilities ALSO granted by the shard counter act the imbalances of having so much lust. Meaning they are aging faster, or being worn down, or whatever having too much lust does to a body, however since they can change there appearance vitality and visible age at a will the effects go unnoticed.

WaxerRed

I didn't find time to listen to them all, but I definitely heard the sibilance others complained of with her. Also wasn't impressed by her Bloodwraith voice or her issues pronouncing words like "immediately".

Decanter

So I had a lore question/hypothesis, related to what we learned from Alonon on this latest update. I'm confident this will either be something you can't answer yet, or maybe I'll be wrong somehow, but I'm dying to ask anyway. Thanks for making such a fantastic game! :) The question is: Why are Incubus King's immortal? I'm assuming that the incubus king shards, and the divine shards opposite them, represent in some way the lust/purity dual nature of the TLSWorld. So it makes sense that when Riala and company "sip" from the divine shard they extend their lifespans, because more purity=live longer. But then, why doesn't the "lust" shard just kill anyone who tries to possess it? Does it have something to do with the weird magic Simon displayed? I realize you might not be able to answer this for spoilers reasons, but am I on the right track here? Way off base? How long to the answers regarding this in game? Once again, thanks for making such an awesomely thoughtful game!

I agree with the above commenter that said it is okay to take breaks. Christmas and the Holidays are a good time for that. Though in my case it's more like I need a break because of the holidays. Also, you seem rather surprised by the work an audiobook entails. I just wanted to mention that it is okay to only put out an audiobook for the first book, if you end up hating the work. It's probably a valuable experience in the end, but you don't need to torture yourself for consistency. Plenty of industries only adapt a small part of the original work into another format to make getting into the property easier for consumers. (The most notable example is probably Anime adaptations with a Read-the-Manga ending.) I haven't even been a patron for an entire year and way more happened than I would ever expect. You are doing a fantastic job!

DuckTogo

Thank you, I appreciate your concern. <3

Just a general note after catching up on a bunch of patreon posts at once... Remember to breathe, ok? You sound anxious, and one's mental well being should always come first.

Saving Carina's men is also something I feel could have a bit more upsides but the Fucklord's incursion was largely limited to the disruption of and conflict inside the tower though right? I know either Gheldaron or Darghelon experienced some demons leaking into the prime plane but I was under the impression most areas where we conducted the ritual saw no real turmoil outside of the disturbance to magic. It would definitely make sense for at least one of the various arcane magical authorities to detail the extent and nature of the disruption though, maybe the head of Stineford academy, unless there is a greater authority we simply never got the chance to directly interact with. I guess the church might be confident in their evaluation conducted through purity magic though? Would be nice to see Carina's men involved in the second part of the succession crisis whenever that happens even if they never effect the Synod.

Grey Wolf

Thanks for the constant updates, Sierra. On an unrelated note, it seems that the Yhilin ambassador hasn't had a chance to react to the revelation of Dargai's true identity. Given that the ambassador, of all people outside the group, had one of the most entangled partnerships with both Simon and Dargai, it seems like a bit of a waste for him not to weigh in with his thoughts somewhere. Also, I haven't finished 0.40 content yet but for those who saved Carina's men, it would be emotionally satisfying if they made an appearance after the third war. Their survival didn't seem to be sufficiently meaningful relative to the cost to save them.

Sarah Colton seemed better than the others to me.
