June 24 Update

Apologies if I'm not very prompt responding to your messages. Busy days. I am kind of worn down, but still feeling like moving everything forward is the best option. Before the Steam sale ends I'll consider picking up something new for a bit of a break. But meanwhile, stuff!

1) TLS 0.35.0

The recent TLS update is up to 0.35.5 due to a bunch of minor mapping errors. T-T I hope this one is good, but let me know if not. I'm glad that I took an extra week and hope the public release will be bug-free.

2) Merch?

There's an upcoming store that intends to focus on merch for western adult games, and they're actively looking for devs to join. Would you guys be interested in TLS/other merchandise? They say they'll support tapestries, t-shirts, posters, patches, backpacks, mugs, and dakimakura.

My gut feeling is that not enough people would be interested for me to pursue this, but speak up if you feel differently. Since I don't have the artistic ability to make the quality of design they need from the assets I have, this would require a little investment. I'll only do it if there's a lot of interest, otherwise I'll stay focused on work.

3) Don't Save the Princess

First question is just feedback on the title logo. See the first draft above.

Second question is who would like to test an alpha build. All the assets are placeholders, so it looks very sloppy, but I've gotten the gameplay to a point where I'd like a large number of people to test so that I can work on balance and such. I'd like volunteers who are interested in this kind of casual game, since it's different from what I've created so far.

4) TLS 0.36.0

Honestly, I doubt I'll be able to start on this in earnest before the public release. Once I do, there will be a question of how I divide the updates: either one massive update, or a smaller update before the party goes to Stenai. I will inquire with patrons about which is preferable a little later.

I think that's all for now. Please respond to the questions if you have opinions!

June 24 Update

Comments

How about a comic series?

Haha, nice!

Sierra Lee

That is why you need a full body pillow instead, with the Unsuccubi Mass boss printed on it. Value!

Runcible Technician

The feedback is still useful, thanks!

Sierra Lee

This might be a bit late, but I wouldn't mind a dakimakura of some of the characters.

I know how that goes, but I look forward to your feedback when you have time!

Sierra Lee

Sorry have not tested the the update lately since there was a lot of sales on steam ended up buying some games on my wishlist and playing them at the moment.

Hell Satan

Appreciate the feedback and thank you for volunteering! Little overwhelmed by feedback right now, but ask again on future builds!

Sierra Lee

Haha, I'm obviously a fan of that kind of over-the-top thing too, but it definitely doesn't translate into very normal merch. DStP will be another $5 one, so most patrons will easily qualify for a free copy.

Sierra Lee

Thanks for all the feedback! Yeah, the title will need to work in a variety of contexts, but I'm hopeful we can keep making improvements.

Sierra Lee

I had some similar thoughts. Suffice it to say that I would not invest in such a shop myself, and as mentioned would be leery of investing too much in preparing products for it. I think this is less of a SV startup, though, because they're using print on demand and likely have much less overhead.

Sierra Lee

I would very much be interested in alpha testing Don't Save the Princess! I think the title for it looks fine also! I would be interested in TLS merch, but be careful. Even when people say they love the idea, with adult titles standard merch like shirts seem to struggle, since people will sometimes be hesitant to wear them in public.

Stormy Weather

When it comes to merch, there are for sure a ton of quotes i'd like to print out and read them every morning. Especially the Incubus King with his Baboon-Cum-Fetish right at the start. Complete blunt humour, but it really put a smile on my face. Sadly, nothing i could wear outside insider-circles i fear. Anyway, regarding your pace: While i'm eager to see how the war will continue, i'd also like to to finish my third playthrough and start a new one. So you're from my POV free to take your time. Do you know how much DSTP will cost already?*hope for a free copy because of Pa(y)treon support intensifies*

Jan Dietrich

Also, if you put up a little Simon token for sale (whether humble green or doom black), I'd probably buy it to decorate my desk. Serious, somber, and scarred, he's the perfect joke to put in plain sight. No one would suspect that I'm advertising an erotic parody unless they themselves were a fan.

Quiet Stranger

You may benefit from making "DON'T" more prominent; perhaps a brighter or sharper red will help, and slanted text overlapping the corner of the next word. Taking the place of the hat, perhaps? Moving the hat to the right-hand corner instead. The definite article should be a cool pastel color like "SAVE" and "PRINCESS" as there's no reason to draw the eye to it. Blend it with the rest of the main title block. I remember that you wanted to make sure casual gamers to pick up on the premise at a glance. The name will do it, read horizontally on a listing. But the logo should pop a little more too. The white background of Patreon might be skewing my visual sense.

Quiet Stranger

Regardless of my many doubts about the viability of a shop dedicated to western H-game merchandising*, as mentioned by others, TLS has, as of now, no strong visual identity of its own. Which complicates things a lot. Also, shipping fees will certainly be prohibitive for people not living in the US, who count for a great deal of your fanbase (a.k.a potential buyers). *This sounds like your average stupid Silicon Valley startup of the day. You know, the ones created on an absurd idea, which manage to survive for three years without getting anything done thanks to big initial investments from people with far too much money, then die quickly.

Rachnera

Thanks for the feedback and for volunteering! For the record, I was never considering full nudity or sex on any merchandise... except dakimakura, I guess, but honestly I hadn't really considered those.

Sierra Lee

Appreciate you volunteering, but the list is getting pretty long. Please volunteer again when the game develops more, though!

Sierra Lee

I volunteer to test. I like the logo. The different font in "don't" has that sort of "buyer beware" warning, "This quest is not what it seems, I tried, and dude, DON'T". Merch would be fun, however I wouldn't purchase any lewd merch. Lewd in this context = full nudity, or sex acts. E.g. skimpily/undressed in a jacuzzi where you can't see privates? Great contrariwise, skimpily/undressed in a jacuzzi where you can't see privates, but it's obvious someone is getting someone else off? Not great. Possibility: There's some places that do print on demand (either for 3d or for shirts) that may be a possibility for making merch available.

Grimwauld

You can count on me to test your new game.

N'Kari

Thanks for the feedback! And I don't think you should feel bad at all for thoughts on the logo - I was showing it to everyone to get reactions, after all. Merch for KoD is indeed a possibility, but that isn't entirely up to me and will be discussed elsewhere. As for talking to other creators... I have a moderate amount of information from SFW creators about it, but nothing from NSFW creators. While it's unlikely that I'll pursue this, getting more information might be worth doing.

Sierra Lee

Thanks for the feedback and for volunteering!

Sierra Lee

Haha, character expression t-shirts are a fun idea. I don't know how likely I am to pursue this at all, but thanks for giving your opinion.

Sierra Lee

Thanks for the feedback!

Sierra Lee

Thanks for the feedback!

Sierra Lee

Thanks for the feedback!

Sierra Lee

Thanks for volunteering! As for DStP, I am not a lawyer and I don't know how much the exact laws matter when it comes to big corporation. But I feel as though DStP is more explicitly parody than KTP. Whether that matters is another thing.

Sierra Lee

I think I would love to have a Qum plushie. But that's not an option anyway. Realistically there are way too many problems with the merch idea to even consider it. 1. I feel like a douche for saying it, but I don't think your audience is large enough. 2. Your audience is too diverse, especially in terms of where they live. For most people buying a 20 dollar shirt with 25 dollar shipping is a no-go. 3. The cast in your main game is too diverse. You have more than a dozen female characters that people could be into, providing appropriate merch for each is no financially viable. 4. You don't own all your assets. 5. You make lewd games. While many people have favorite porn actors, they don't want to broadcast their preferences to society. I personally wish it weren't so, but that's how it is. And now to make me feel even douchier: I don't think the logo is colourful enough. If this is supposed to be a casual game, though a lewd one, then it should look like one. In my opinion both the word Save and the word Princess should have distinct, bright colours. I understand that the colours used correspond to their designs, but taken on its own, I don't think the logo would catch anyone's attention. It looks much too drap for that. Anyway, I hope that didn't come off as too negative. Much like other commenters I also think you should take care of yourself first and foremost and not worry too much about making quick progress. You are already incredibly productive, so one or two weeks at half-speed don't hurt much. I know this goes into a different territory as far as royalties go, but I think Kingdom of Deception might at least have the right basis on which to sell merch. You have one prominent female character, possibly two counting Neve, and both would be appropriate for a Dakimura. Of course, this would take quite a large chunk of time out of Nomo's schedule and I still would be worried about the size of the audience, but I think it is worth a thought. PS: Have you inquired with other creators how their attempts at merch have gone? I know Fenoxo has a store, so if you have connections there it would be worth asking them.

DuckTogo

My place is a tiny hole in the wall so even if I wanted to I couldn't commit to buying anything outside of maybe a shirt, but then I'd never be able to actually wear that shirt anywhere most likely. I guess it really would take seeing what you might actually offer to give a solid answer, but likely answer is no. I would love to help you test your new project though.

Troqu

As far as the merch goes, It really depends on if you can make things on the nose. For mugs, you could easily look into making things like "Imitating strike" , a ping mug with sparkles with "Qum Bomb" written on it, "Horny Mug" (Heh, like the helm but with spikes drawn on the mug). T-Shirts could be the name of the counties in the game, or even factions. House Rose and Yhilini Thaumaturgy. Also popular slogans "Friend of the Doom King", Priest/Priestess of Ivala:, You even have the potential to do some funny things with the characters expressions. TBH I'd buy a T-Shirt with Simon doing the "Really -.-" Look. As far as alpha/beta testing the game, I'm up for it!. I've followed your work for a long time, TLS, NN, KOD, CG. All are great. I have faith!

Aria

Like the logo. Would gladly kick about your new toy(must always test durabilty). The merch deal, to be honest, with you I would more than likely pick something up. However, as others have stated if it would hurt you in anyway than I would rather you worry about your current works. As for the updates, other than overtaxing yourself from time to time, you have always seemed to have a good feel for timing the cliffhanger or respite. Again with the caveat of self care, I will leave it in your steady hands.

wyrme

Without a lot of assets to put out there, I don't know if merch is a great idea. As far as the update goes, I think in this case I'd prefer the smaller update with the fallout so we can deal with that, and then the whole conflict in one big update.

Retromancer

I probably wouldn't buy merch, but it really depends on what you put out there. A shirt with a funny quote maybe. I like the logo for DStP. A smaller update for 0.36 would be fine with me, I like breather updates before serious ones.

NomiNomi

I volunteer as tribute! I mean. I'd like to test DSIP, please. I play so many casual games including runners... FWIW I think Nintendo might have an issue with DSIP being a sex game, whereas KTP is...fine, in that it isn't priced for much and it definitely got classed as a parody. I can see the dev of KTP leaning hard into the parody for press releases as well in the Steam description, whereas Apple doesn't have that kind of press release categorization on their Store, if that makes sense. Merch-wise, no opinion. I probably wouldn't buy anything for myself...though quote T-shirts might be a good gag gift...on many levels. I am craving more TLS, but not if it hurts you. Take some time to relax when you need it.

SEEQYR

Thanks for the feedback and for volunteering!

Sierra Lee

Overall great casual title in my opinion and well I think it would be great if there was merch for TLS I would be all over it but I feel your creativity would be better focus on developing the game than this no matter how much I would love to see it ; ). As always like I've done in the past I offer my self as a volunteer to test your causal game, thanks as always Sierra for your dedication and creativity. Also make sure to take care of yourself, what's most important is your health.

Bladestorm

Thanks for the feedback and for volunteering!

Sierra Lee

Thanks for the feedback and for volunteering!

Sierra Lee

Thanks for the feedback. To be clear, it's not that I feel 0.36.0 has to be huge, it's that once the party goes to Stenai, it makes the most sense to have a large chunk of content in one update. I'm also considering having a smaller update that's mostly fallout from the previous conflict and some scenes, so that those things aren't lumped in with an update that has to be big.

Sierra Lee

I'd like to test your game! Logo is neato, but I think that "Don't" and "the" can be more different in color, assuming that the hues of "Save" and "Princess" are fixed to correspond with the characters. A less prominent shade of green for "the", perhaps? More prominent shades of color for "Save" and "Princess", along the same lines. Red is fitting for "Don't". I make a point of avoiding brand labeling (as much as possible), but I can make an exception for indie stuff. Tentative interest from me. Take care of yourself!

Kenzurith

Always enjoy playing your games, I would love to test this one out. As far as merch goes, not a huge buyer of the stuff myself. It could be neat, but the reality of me buying anything is very slim, so I would just count me as another no for merch. I would rather that energy and creativity go towards making your games. Oh yes, and the logo does look great, the title is quite intriguing to me, alot of different ways that could be taken. Alright, I am done rambling now. Take care, Sierra!

Badger66

I've told you before that I think your concerns with productivity are a gross case of Imposter Syndrome, so don't push yourself too hard on too big a 0.36 update. The first phase of the as yet to be named Erosian Conflict had so many moving parts that an argument could be made that you overextended yourself in 0.35. ("The War of the League of Stenai" is the least lame name I've come up with.) Merchandise isn't really my thing, so I can't think of any circumstance where I'd buy TLS gear unless it becomes a cultural phenomenon and I want to irritate my sister-in-law with an inappropriate gift for my nephew. The logo for your planned lawsuit looks fine to me. :p

DukeLeto7

Haha, it's a fun idea. ^-^ Though it seems less likely that I'll go through with it, I hope everybody who wants that sort of merch will speak up so I can get a good view of things.

Sierra Lee

Thanks for the feedback! I am honestly not sure how worried to be about Nintendo. While I think the game is distinct enough, that doesn't stop big companies from using legal clubs. I wonder if using a similar font would actually be stronger grounds for that...

Sierra Lee

Honestly I would buy Qum merch like my life depended on it, maybe have some of her most inspirational quotes put onto t-shirts.

Kobold Lad

1. Hope you feel better soon! Take breaks when you need them. 2. TLS merch sounds interesting. I would consider buying some. 3. The Don't Save the Princess logo looks pretty great in my opinion, my only concern would be how much it looks like a Mario/Peach spinoff. Nintendo tends to be pretty mean when it comes to copyright. Wouldn't want you to get into trouble with them. 4. That being said, testing DSTP sounds fun. I'd be happy to test it and provide feedback.

Haha, that's a funny idea but I'd probably go more mainstream if I ever followed up on this. And I'd like more assets, but right now it feels very challenging to find an appropriate artist. Thanks for volunteering!

Sierra Lee

Thanks for volunteering!

Sierra Lee

Thanks for volunteering!

Sierra Lee

Thanks for the feedback and for volunteering!

Sierra Lee

Yeah, that's another issue as well.

Sierra Lee

Well if you plan on including more CGs in TLS at some point it'd definitely be killing two birds with one stone to add said CGs to merch. I'm amused at the idea of a picture of Simon, Kai, and Altina on a shirt, Kai front and center, with a joke about how Kai dies 5 minutes in. Or a poster of that group hug CG I want. Also, I'd be game for testing your side project. I'm always game for free trials. Free stuff in general.

Taium

Yeah, I figured that lots of people would respond that way. That's a good point about the emblems on top of the logo. Something that would look good even much smaller was one of my requests, and I think it works, but that could be an improvement.

Sierra Lee

I'm willing to test your game. I am really liking the premise of it.

TheButtGod

I'll gladly help test your new project, should be interesting to see something completely different ;)

Censuur

Sorry to hear you're not feeling well... I hope that gets better. The steam sale has some nice stuff, I've already spent way too much on it XD Merchandise isn't something I do in general, personally, so no meaningful comments there. I like that logo and title choice pretty well, personally. And I'm not the game's target audience at all, but I'd still be willing to give the alpha a try if that feedback would still be valuable to you.

Lord Forte

I'd definitely consider buying merchandise if you can come up with products you feel are suitable to the game. The primary obstacle as I see it is that the game is largely built around non-original visual assets, which limits the options for designs that are evocative of the game and aren't based on resources that may be shared with other games. Since Yarra is something of a flagship character, and I as I understand it her art is original to TLS, it might make the most sense to design any potential products around her.

Desertopa

Hope you don't overwork yourself. Even on months you take some time off you're more productive than most creators I follow. Re, merch: Much as I love the idea and cool as it would be to support you on this, I can't imagine actually wearing a porn-game T-shirt or using a coffee cup with a logo that could be recognized from an adult game. It'd be considered wildly inappropriate in an office setting (all you'd need is one person to know what it is, and word leaks out, and boom HR goes into harassment-lawsuit-aversion mode you're being handed a pink slip... In this era of #metoo most big companies are very, very aggressive about anything even remotely sexual in the workplace. ) I'd not be comfortable at home with it either, my wife would flip if she found out what the logo meant. Logo looks good, but I'd consider making some shading or color distinction between the hat things atop the S & P from the letter; remember that this thing will often be rendered small, and if you zoom out the text looks a bit deformed.

Dubsington

More important than any of this, IMHO of course, is you taking care of yourself Sierra.
