May 27 Update
Added 2018-05-27 18:35:47 +0000 UTCThis week was not great for TLS progress, but at least I moved some other things along. Ouroboros getting up on Steam, for example, which is good to check off the list. Nice to see it getting some kind reviews, too - we're getting close to the 10 review inflection point! You'll also see some other things from me soon, regardless of your pledge level.
But for today, I'll instead talk about a new thing that's a double-edged sword: Crimson Gray has finally opened up the option to have trading cards. After a long time having no idea what Steam's requirements were, the "ineligible" message finally disappeared... and I still have no idea about the metrics they used for that decision.
Adding cards is definitely something I should do. Lots of fans request it and all evidence suggests it would be good for the game in the future. But getting them involves creating lots of little images, which is about my least favorite thing. -_- I made an effort to finish the cards and emoticons before getting sick of it. Not sure about making backgrounds and no clue what I can do for the badges. Plus there's a chance these could get rejected by Valve, which would make me flail wildly at my computer.
Still, it's a good thing. I now know that my games aren't getting forbidden for content reasons and that the requirements for cards aren't so high I won't reach them. Seems likely that other games will get cards as well. But for now... gotta actually make them. =/
Anyway, I've been a touch burned out lately. Posting this early, will take a break for a while, then hopefully hit next week fresh!

On the offchance that you haven't seen it, some more positive-sounding news from Valve: https://arstechnica.com/gaming/2018/06/valve-we-want-to-allow-everything-on-steam-including-something-that-you-hate/

2018-06-01 12:23:52 +0000 UTCSo wait, why is the post describing the future of Crimson Gray limited to 10$ patrons? I thought donating 5 was enough to be able to see the future of Sierras projects?

2018-05-31 13:52:36 +0000 UTCIf you need a laugh (or eyeroll), the usual suspects on the wiki forum are approaching a consensus on the Fanon nickname for That Godawful Thing Climbing Up The Tower. "Nidhoggr" (the wyrm gnawing on the roots of Yggdrasil in the Volupsa) Of course that consensus is standing at something like 3-1 with an abstention. (I think.) Other contenders have been "Doomsday", a Lovecraftian "The Dweller Coming From Below", and "Shub-Nidhogg, The Wyrm Coming From The Base of the Tower" has been proposed as a compromise candidate. There's also been rampant speculation on the identities of the more obscure members of Xerces' 11 (the listed Tower-walkers, and an upcoming motion picture starring George Clooney). Opinion is divided as to whether the being of chaos and mischief in Renthnor is Mestan or the cloaked thief with the high pitched voice who won a competition that hasn't been mentioned since Day 5 of the Gathering, or whether they are all... THE SAME!!! (Dun-dun-DUNNN!!!!) I've decided Mestan and the mystery thief are different, because my Headcanon for Mestan's voice is Eddie Izzard's James Mason impression: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ezqDuCyD7rY https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rs_pnCsLciQ

2018-05-31 01:48:17 +0000 UTCThat seems to be part of what happened with breeding season, burnout-guilt motivating over-promise -> under-deliver, eventually turned the people working on the game against each other.

2018-05-27 23:25:33 +0000 UTCYeah, I've actually finished all the graphics for the cards themselves (barring a rejection from Valve). Just characters on white. But you need to give rewards for collecting them: emoticons, profile backgrounds, and the badge icons themselves. Those latter ones are the part I haven't done, because they require more design skills than I possess. Actually, it might be more efficient to link to the documentation about what all is necessary: https://partner.steamgames.com/doc/marketing/tradingcards Not that big a deal, but it's not really my skillset.

2018-05-27 23:24:38 +0000 UTCI'm not sure where else to put this, sorry if it should be somewhere else. In Desecration of Wings, in the city capital, chasing the dog at the docks in the direction of water when it can't move freezes the game entirely. I can change the screen size but not much else works, and it forces a restart. Auto-save rescued me, thank goodness, so only 10s of progress lost. I bought it and Ouroboros yesterday, and it's been a lot of fun playing through both.
2018-05-27 22:55:58 +0000 UTCSorry to hear you are burnout, congrats on getting ourboros on steam. But like people say earlier the cards can just be shrunken art with a simple background. But if you need to take a break take a break, anyway little sad to hear not much progress on TLS but understandable. Can't wait to see whats in the future, and hope you get the rest you need. Have a good day!

2018-05-27 19:49:22 +0000 UTCSorry to hear you're feeling burned out... I hope a rest helps with that. Congrats on getting Ouroboros on steam, and grats on unlocking cards despite the frustration that entails... For what it's worth, in my experience, cards usually just end up being characters on a solid color background. Looking at my inventory, every card I have is either a piece of official art shrunk down or just an image of one of the characters on a solid color (or otherwise very simplistic, like clouds or a starfield) background, so I don't think you need to stress too much over fancy backgrounds? Maybe just shrink some of the actual game backgrounds as appropriate?

2018-05-27 19:27:58 +0000 UTCI think she means steam trading cards. They're a weird meta thing where after playing so much of a game, you can get a random card from a set. They're really pretty pointless (imo) since they have no functional value, but they appeal to the collectors' instinct in people much like achievements do and tend to be a requested feature.

2018-05-27 19:24:30 +0000 UTCSorry, going to feel like an idiot but adding cards? Cards that show the current emotion of the player or different ways at looking at a situation? Just curious as what you mean by adding cards in Crimson Grey for it doesnt seem like something that should be done considering it is a visual novel.

2018-05-27 18:58:49 +0000 UTCWhatever you do don't keep forcing yourself to work if you feel burned out! Take a break and come back feeling fresh. Continuing to work when you're not enjoying it is what makes people quit things all together.
