March 11 Update

Several topics this update.

Desecration of Wings

First, look at this:

That is my trophy. Metaphorical blood, sweat, and tears went into earning it. I have complaints about Steam's process, but now is not the time. I could have rushed the release earlier, but decided to schedule it for March 16th. This will make things less rushed and hopefully conserve precious TLS momentum.

Here is the Steam page again:
http://store.steampowered.com/app/793450/Desecration_of_Wings

If you were waiting for Steam to get this one, please add it to your wishlist so you can get the game when it comes out.

Crimson Gray on IndieGala

By coincidence, the agreement for a bundle I made with IndieGala ages ago is also going to be coming on March 16th. I'm not sure if the timing is good or bad. =/

Anyway, if you want to get CG cheaply, this will be a good chance! Otherwise, it's just an FYI. Bundles are generally good for letting more people play the game but bad for business.

There's more I could say, on the concerning developments with Patreon, issues with marketing, and some new bans, but let's focus the rest of this post on something positive:

TLS!

Let's talk about TLS 0.33.0! It won't be the longest update, but it should satisfy anyone hungry for more political machinations. This will be similar to the Ardford Summit, but instead of a formal event manipulating several key votes, it will be more free manipulation of broader politics.

Multiple different threads of the story will be woven together in the coming conflict. Some of the past events aren't so much loose threads as raw material to make this conflict have some weight. There will be a set of new characters, but I hope I've invested enough in the world political situation that it shouldn't be hard to follow.

The political situation won't be resolved in the next update, though. =P Once you play, you'll see why - this will be a subplot of chapter four.

In addition to the politics, you'll see some old friends again! And there's one particular element that I'm guessing people won't be anticipating. I laid the seed for this one a long time ago, I'll be happy to finally use it. ^-^

Anyway, I'm afraid the DoW release, Patreon nonsense, and other issues will still suck up some of my time. But I hope everyone looks forward to the TLS content I'm slowly forging through all that!

March 11 Update

Comments

So when can we expect 33 to come out?

Gilgame

Not really a problem per se, but looks odd. The Battleground submap in Ardoheim Events in the 3rd Arclent War is used for several scenes, including the Simon + Antarion bridge battle and the Aka team looking at the Wall of Ivala going up. This latter has the house Antarion was hanging out in front of prior to the bridge battle in the upper right hand corner, and Antarion is visible chilling out during the Wall of Ivala scene. No effect on gameplay but it looks a bit silly.

DukeLeto7

Minor errata: The dwarf offering additional monster tunnels in Eustrin in Ch 4 appears in Ch 3.

DukeLeto7

Though traveling the shortest distance over the ocean isn't always the primary concern, so it can't be used to map geography with 100% accuracy, your basic reasoning is correct. Airships traveling between Ghenalon and the Orgasmic Empire had two choices: travel north from Yhilin over the wasteland border between Aram and the Incubus Emperor, or refuel and take a longer trip around Arclent. The breakup of the Incubus Emperor's domain has made this route safer and more efficient.

Sierra Lee

Thankfully, I've found no new Doomed/Doom King errors up through Governing Yhilin III. One thing that I've been thinking through is "Where is Thenours?" I've come to the conclusion that it's mostly due South and maybe a little East of Arclent, with Erosia opposite Zirantia, Ardoheim opposite Tatseni, Stenai and the other minor nations, and the Elven Lands opposite Ghenalon beyond the Pithu Ocean, with Rodak at the edge of the Antarctic. The reasoning is that every character we've met so far who has traveled from Thenours to Arclent ended up (or started if we include Simon going the other direction) in Ardoheim, and drawing a straight line from the Orgasmic Empire to Ghenalon intersects Yhilin if Ghenalon is located as I describe. Plus it places Erosia closest to Zirantia, making the Fucklord's razzia into the latter make a bit more sense. I'm not asking if that's right or not, I'm guessing we'll learn in due time, but replaying the trade negotiations section has left me with an unresolved question: How exactly was the new trade route dealing with the airspace rights of the Incubus Emperor and/or Aram? This is mentioned in passing but never followed up on. Are the Orgasmic Airships just brazenly violating Aram or the IKD's airspace? Does Esthera have some type of trade agreement with the Incubus Emperor? Maybe they stick to the wastelands at the unmarked border? Obviously it's no longer an issue at the beginning of Ch.4, but what was the story there?

DukeLeto7

Gathering palace staff is an optional sidequest that you can't complete at this time. The quest log has not yet been updated with the next update's priorities, but you got a preview of them at the end of the previous content. The last several releases have been largely devoted to building the open world foundation for the rest of the game. Now that this is complete, future updates will be focused on more linear plot segments again. As I got into above, next segment you'll be going to Ardoheim to deal with problems of the succession. I hope that update will be more to your taste and restore your interest in the game.

Sierra Lee

Regarding TLS... I'm currently in a spot where the only white items in the quest log are "Palace Staff" and "Arbiter". The only subquest to Arbiter is "Gather the party", which is green. This means that the only remaining thing according the quest log is to find palace staff (I've found four). This is not very exciting. For the first time I find myself losing interest in the game, which is sad, because I really love it. I'd like some log entry to remind me of what I'm really supposed to do, since I play infrequently. The last couple of releases have felt like I'm aimlessly wandering around.

Looking forward to the political fun. The attention to detail in TLS really makes it fun. If i issue a fiat and a while later the guy who sweeps the street makes a remark about how great my decision was, it really helps the immersion and enjoyability.

Dubsington

Far from it - art of the characters is great! Dari will definitely reach a state where she is happier, but you'll have a choice regarding what that looks like.

Sierra Lee

Hrum, now that you mention it, I think that's a spoiler. That did NOT happen in the last chunk of game.

SEEQYR

So... I am playing a porn game (well, that's an oversimplification, but still). And the thing, that excites me the most is "more political scheming". Something is not quite right here. =)

Seil

I sent a friend the link to DoW on steam. He trusted me enough to buy Crimson Grey sight unseen and said this interested him too. I'm just glad to see good sense prevail. It has also been quite some time since I last played TLS (was giving it time to gain a solid chunk of content) but I think it's time for me to get back into it. Especially since it seems I missed the king's passing it seems.

Troqu

You don't know how happy this makes me, the summit and the investments with megail are the points in the game were i always make a previous save, considering them to be the key points for changes and detials for latter on, i rather be surprised than try and guess, and after i take the surprise ill see if i can change anything by replaying, THIS is what we need more in games.

Leveler All

Congratulations on the DoW release. Also, Wooh! More politics! Not even kidding when I say that the political decision making scenes are easily my favourite part of TLS. They give a feeling of power that no other game I've played has successfully delivered. I love almost every aspect of TLS but, were you to remove every mechanic save for the monumental decisions, it would still be one of the most exciting games that I have had the pleasure of experiencing.

Sower of Systems

mmhm politics I can already taste the intrigue.. can't wait to see my options for this.

Bladestorm

Waiting and waiting for dari to get "fixed." I just hope she doesn't get her look "fixed" too. She is very cute as her zombieish self. Probably going to commision art of her if you don't mind.

Dmitry F

While I think the "research" has to come out at some point too, I don't think its the twist - even though I agree it would be great. It seems too obvious because like you said it almost has to come out at some point. The fact that Serra said she seeded it a long time ago makes me think of something way back in the beginning - like the weird priestess in Feroholm being a Riala agent or gaining the Lamia in the withered mountains as a harem member.

Retromancer

Woo! Great news on TLS, and congrats on pushing through with Steam.

Dreikaiserbund

On a brighter note, "This will be similar to the Ardford Summit" makes me the most excited for an update I've been since the "intricate political maneuvering focusing on the non-combat characters" mentioned in the last update. The Summit is my favorite part of the game, and I can't wait to get another fix.

Handsome Stalin

Glad to hear the whole mess with Steam seems to be finally over, it had to have been a real nightmare to deal with

Handsome Stalin

Don't know if this is a better time than average, but feel free if you want!

Sierra Lee

Standards that Steam doesn't apply consistently. It was frustrating. =/ Anyway, hope you enjoy the update!

Sierra Lee

This sounds like a good time to play through again, I coincidentally got a new computer and haven't transferred those files yet. I might not bother now.

Wildeyes

I'm glad to hear that DOW is finally heading to Steam. I wonder what it was that was holding it back. It is nice to hear that this will be a political update for TLS. The Ardford summit is one of the most interesting sections of the game and I always agonize over what the best decision is even after multiple breakthroughs. I'm eager to see how we can twist things to our advantage this time around. When it comes to the element that we may not be anticipating I do have a guess, but without more information on Zirantian heat cycles and fertility I cannot say for certain.

Trevor

My personal preference for the twist: Someone finds out about Simon and Robin's "Research." That HAS to come out at some point. My bet's on Riala finding out due to how close they're working together. Yarra's my second guess, for obvious reasons. Nalili third, because daughter threesome. Robin's behind the fuck quota.

Taium

congrats sierra

austin fagan

I was wondering if anyone would recognize his sprite. You'll find out! =D

Sierra Lee

Waitaminute, does that line of presumed potential royal claimants contain Antarion? http://kancolle.wikia.com/wiki/File:Nope-Meme-Godzilla-05.jpg

DukeLeto7

I always want to get things out as soon as possible, but I'm thankful that people are patient!

Sierra Lee

Haha, have fun. It's not that no one has ever brought this subject up before, but I seriously doubt anyone will be expecting a specific development.

Sierra Lee

Hmmm... Political intrigue... I've got the perfect shortcut for this. Unleash another Qum bomb. Seriously, who would have figured that our favourite healer would have created the most powerful weapon in recorded fantasy history.

Tanner

Here's to the steam DOW release: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oUSo4WImxdU

DukeLeto7

Looking forward to the update. Take your time.

Jan Dietrich

Sierra's stance on cheating has always been "meh" pretty much. Using it to simply speed up the game instead of actually cheating? She won't care. Hell, she has actively fixed some of the bugs cheating causes sometimes. So...

Secular Reason

I thought the king told them off? Didn't they just assume he was part of the cult?

Greentext Guy

HYPE. Also Sierra. Do you judge me if I use cheat engine to double the game speed? I like seeing the battle animations but they feel like they take forever. Unfortunately as a side effect my current playtime is listed at 53 hours since double time.

Greentext Guy

Sierra, you said: "In addition to the politics, you'll see some old friends again! And there's one particular element that I'm guessing people won't be anticipating. I laid the seed for this one a long time ago, I'll be happy to finally use it. ^-^" Challenge Accepted. I'm gonna replay the game and see if I missed anything. I'll tell you if you managed to surprise me. Most don't, but you sometimes do.

Secular Reason

i bet its the tie to the royal family that cult had
