August 12 Update

Early update because today works better than the weekend.

Here's my plan: I intend to release an update next weekend (August 19). It will be smaller than usual, but I feel good about what I've created so far. That's the headline, but more information on why below (also some requests if we have any programmers reading).

Even before, I'd been considering whether or not to split the content in Darghelon/Gheldaron into two updates or not, and now events have pushed me toward the split. It's not exactly where I'd planned to split it, but I think it will more or less work.

The personal reason for this choice is that the content I was working on before and just after the tragedy is tangled up in my emotions about it. I think I will feel better if I get it completed before I try to take time away, otherwise I'll just come back to the same things. I've put in a lot of extra work to make sure this update is up to the usual quality, and I really hope everyone will enjoy it.

The only part I haven't been doing is writing sex scenes, as it's rough to try to summon that frame of mind. Fortunately, the sex scene for this part of the story was already written long ago. So my goal has been to finish all the half-created pieces and fill in the gaps so that we have a coherent update up to a logical stopping point.

After this release, the next update may be a little delayed, but I don't predict a huge gap in releases or anything. I just need to clean my creative palette, take some personal time, then dive into creating brand new content.

Now, most of what's necessary to finish the update is just me doing my usual work. However, I have run across two problems that I don't think I will be able to resolve on my own. I have already tried to contact some people about these, but so far haven't gotten any responses, so I'm asking here just in case there are any coders reading - if so, contact me for more info!

1) I added a new script that only works with new games; I need a patch that will allow it to work with saved games as well. The script allows for fancier parallax maps - I've already put in a ton of effort to try to make one of the new maps for this update look nice, so I'd really like to make this work without forcing anyone to replay.

2) I have a new profile image for Aka with her new colors, but the harem menu script doesn't seem to allow for changing entry images mid-game. This one isn't a priority, but it's also one I definitely won't figure out on my own.

The work is going well in general, so if I can get problem #1 figured out, you can expect a new version of the game on August 19.

Comments

Hey Sierra, much as it's "taboo" to tell people to push through situations like yours, in this case the decision is probably best for exactly the reasons you stated. Your emotions are obviously going to bleed into your work, that's just how creation goes (and, oddly enough it probably is more appropriate for it to be now than any other point in the game, when people in the city are feeling losses from the war insensitive as that remark may seem) so the decision to ensure that this segment is done before your vacation so that you don't return right back to the same emotional "mess" is probably a good one. So push through, get it all out of your system, and come back after in a healthier frame of mind.

Hey Decanter, if you can't figure it out after taking a break shoot me a message and I can try and look at it for you. Sometimes a fresh mind helps and all that. ~Lunasmeow

Secular Reason

I believe I have something working for #2. Going to sleep on it and do some more testing before sending it, but this is as much a note to others to discourage duplication of effort as anything.

Decanter

Java script is shenanigans, but I could take a look at it. Where can I find the source files?

Dr. Genesis

Thanks to everyone who offered help in comments or messages! I am pleased to say that it appears the problem has been completely resolved and was fortunately simpler than I expected. Issue #2 is still an unknown. It's not a priority, but if anyone wants to look into it while they're looking though game files, go right ahead.

I am a software engineer; I've never touched RPG Maker code before, but I could take a look at it.

SantaTheHutt

Hmm I know a cousin who does some coding and I ll see what type of coding he does, don't know if it will help but I will look into it about your first problem
