Alpine with Shantia Veney

I hope you're all having a beautiful day! I'm just settling in back at home after my trip to the West Coast which was a lot of fun. So much so that I've decided to return there for my next major trip, in May! Generally, I only visit an area once each year, so this is unusual for me, but this trip left a feeling of unfinished business in the Southern California area so I look forward to returning to connect with those I missed this time around... hopefully with some warmer weather to accommodate outdoor sessions! :)
Speaking of cold outdoor shoots, I hope you'll enjoy these images taken last September by Shantia Veney high up in the Uinta ranges of Utah. Shantia and I signed up to be driven to a mystery (to us) location by friends of ours and wow, I can definitively say that it's not a place we ever would have found on our own!! After offroading for what felt like an eternity (really just hours, but hours is plenty when it comes to being thrown around in the back of a truck, haha) whilst longingly watching the sun disappear behind the surrounding mountains, we lost all hope of finding the golden meadowy sunset we'd originally envisaged but were greeted instead by a beautiful, terraced waterfall (not pictured here but hopefully in another post someday soon) and this pretty steam! We may have missed a direct view of the sunset but it was lovely to enjoy its warm hues reflected in the water, and the location overall was a joy to explore.
I tend to think of beautiful rock formations and red dirt when imagining Utah, but each time I'm in the area I'm always amazed by the diversity of the landscapes that can be found within a relatively short distance from one another. This frigid mountain stream feels about a world away from the parched desert, but really they're only a few hours apart!
