Skyharker Robes: Concept Art

As much of a surprise to you as to myself, I've joined a modding team.

It was a spontaneous decision. They reached out to me out of the blue and usually I would've said no to this kind of thing. In fact I heavily considered saying no, and I honestly don't know why I said yes?

But I am so glad I did! It's a great incentive to actually do personal work. Although it's for a project that isn't mine, and I have an art Lead checking my work and giving feedback, it doesn't feel like a job. It feels like personal work. (probably because I'm not getting paid lol)

And doing concept art is actually very different from illustrations! It's all about, well, the *concept*, the idea, and much less about rendering and making things pretty. Although I do that too. I just can't help myself.

I joined a team that's working on a Skyrim mod: Alinor.
Alinor will be a gigantic mod bordering on DLC featuring the summerset isles, home of the Altmer and the Thalmor. We are not a Beyond Skyrim mod, although we hope to be.

And here is my first assignment, finished. I was given this prompt:

"Skyharkers and Vartisans are two gears in a larger piece of 'machinery', so to speak. Skyharkers attend to the Orreries of Alinor, drawing magical power from the stars into the Varlines, through which the magical power flows across the province. Vartisans keep the Varlines functional.

Whilst the Skyharkers should have gold ornamentation and detail, the Vartisans should have blue."
Aswell as a reference photo of an elf in long robes. Lots of freedom.

Here are my first outfit sketches.

They wanted to see more of #2 and #4. Feedback was that the sleeves were way too long for the engine! Ok, no problem. Shorter sleeves.

I refined the selected designs. We decided to go for the long flowy robes, but saving the other outfit for potential player mage outfit. Next up: Turnarounds!

You can see the gold version at the top of the post, and here's the blue version - notes and all.

Ive spent hundreds of hours in Skyrim. I played it a lot, and I was really surprised to see it have such an active modding community still. I'll keep you guys updated on my projects, although future posts won't be nearly this lengthy.

My next assignment: fences.
