Pt1 - Making a Shot - Boardwalk

Will this part 1 get a part 2?? Who knows! No no yes- it will. It absolutely will.

But yeah, just working through the Final Shot! In theory Brendan is finishing up the audio mix in the next few days, meaning... hot damn we could release this thing next week?? I'm excited.

For more info on things I talked about in this video:
Align Camera Track
Quickly Animating Complex Neon Signs (using the Flicker Controller Image (below))
Creating Auto-Randomizing Signs (contains a decent intro to randomization, from what I recall)
Modeling a Slot Machine (a more in-depth version of the little skee-ball bit, mostly)
Flicker Controller Image (for animating the neon signs)

Here after the new episode, moving the camera up to look at the flyer in the sky was such a smart way to solve the weird camera angle issue! It completely sold the shot for me even though I knew how it was made :P

Garrett Wade

damn just watched ep 1 pt 2 and I can see why the pt 2 to this would be a lot to go through!

nikolasdove

Excited for part 2!

Jon-Tyrell Adolpho

Ewan Bryant

Phani Kumar Kotaprolu

We need more videos like this, watch you build a scene is way more interesting than watching an average movie!

hi Ian ,have you ever try octane for blender , I knew it for a long time but recently i have tried again and I'm amazed , I realise that cycles lacks a lot of thing if u want to get Hollywood quality , especially for environment .

YARcade - the favorite hangout spot for gamer freeway pirates

Platyelf

true! but i think most of the image textures ian uses fall into that criteria, no?

Kai Christensen

Rarcade - an exclusive video gaming club where you can only enter if you can prove that you have a currently valid registered license for WinRAR archiving utility

in response to how to use ai as part of ur workflow here is a cool youtube vid about generating stone patterns and engravings and converting them to bump maps for extra details n stuff by a guy called max hay https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iv4ka8uax6A im sure you could find lots of unique places to use this technique

Not Louiiis

Great vid! Love the full shot process vids. Thanks Ian.

Tim Evans

Farcade - arcade that you can never reach because it's permanently locked to the horizon Starcade - arcade that's inexplicably powered by a fusion reactor Parcade - only golf games

Zeke Faust

Side note, isn't it highly dependent on the input texture? Like, 0.01 only equals 1cm if the base pixel is 1.0

Zeke Faust

Yep. Ian you're a real hero for some of us man.

Robert Singler Jr

I love these types of videos and already eagerly awaiting part 2!

Topher Orrick

found it :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=njPcpnoSXDg

PSA: the "Height" value in the Bump Map node is measured in meters! So the reason why 0.01 looked like too much bump when you were fiddling with the railing paint material is because 0.01m = 1cm. 1cm is way too big of a bump height for a painted plank! eventually, you set it it 0.001, or 1mm, which is a much more reasonable bump height for paint.

The red roofed arcade gives repurposed Pizza Hut vibes

Platyelf

I could watch you work on this shot for another 11 hours and 27 minutes.

Luka Hrgovic

amazing! I really enjoy how you make decisions on the go, you make it look really fun!

Jordan Hilliard

Have a look at the object removal node in fusion! You can plug in your magic mask and it'll paint them out of the background with magic so you can avoid the funky depth of field stuff aaaaaand makes it a little more accurate lighting wise for things in the back

HerbHerbHerbert

Auto-Roto you say? What magic is this?!?

Doug Bischoff

he uses the studio version.

R

He uses the paid version, I know because he uses the magic something tool that I can't remember the name of 😅

JustSlothMate

would love to hear a little bit of your thoughts on making music! it’s silly but i do rather enjoy some of your songs! ever considered releasing them on spotify?

Robert Gyurko

Ian! Was great to meet you at Opensauce the other week. Why do you manually choose your tracking points rather than using the auto detect feature?

Carson Reader

Do you use the free version of da Vinci resolve?
