Visiting a temple on Tanabata day in a yukata🍧

If some of my lovely foreign supporters aren’t familiar with it, let me share a little story. Tanabata celebrates the once-a-year meeting of Orihime (the weaver star, Vega) and Hikoboshi (the cowherd star, Altair), lovers separated by the Milky Way. It’s a beautiful tradition where people write wishes on colorful strips of paper called tanzaku and hang them on bamboo branches.

This year, I visited a temple wearing my beautiful yukata. 🌸 I tried to dress myself without any professional help, which was honestly quite challenging! I’m still worried that someone more knowledgeable might spot my mistakes 😅 So please forgive me in advance if I didn’t get everything perfectly right.

At the temple, I prayed for world peace. I used a 5 yen coin (goen), which is considered lucky in Japan because “goen” sounds like “good connection” or “good fortune” — it’s often used when praying for wishes to come true. (Please correct me if I got any nuance wrong!)

I also drew a fortune slip and was happy to find it said I’d have good luck. 🍀 Then I treated myself to a huge matcha ice cream. Eating ice cream while wearing yukata gave me such a strong feeling of summer, even though the real summer heat isn’t here yet… after all, the cicadas haven’t started singing, which to me is the real start of summer in Japan!

I brought my Miffy bag along because I thought it matched my yukata nicely. What do you think? 🐰💖 And yes, I wore geta sandals — walking gracefully in them is no joke, but I did my best to look elegant… or at least not trip over myself 😂

I felt so happy just strolling around, taking in the festival atmosphere, and soaking up these small joys. Sometimes, that’s the best kind of happiness.

Thank you always for supporting me, wherever you are in the world. 💕
If you ever get the chance, I hope you can experience Tanabata in Japan one day too!

You look so pretty in that Yukata, which has great colors and patterns for you! And that bag is super cute, too! 😊 And thank you for sharing that cultural knowledge, it's interesting know that context.
