this took a lot longer than i had thought it would, i hope people enjoy it regardless though! i originally came into this piece wanting to do a simple two part thing but some steps i took early on made things really annoying to work with later, and i ultimately had to make a couple compromises on things. hopefully i've learned how to do things better for the future.
