In the first image I made two ways to start a sketch based on the ref image(simplified blocks and a doll body) . In both we see that it is important to start with simple basic shapes, then we add details and complex/varied shapes.
In the second image I show how I use the references in my drawings. In this one I used just one image, paying attention to what I believe to be the main parts of the reference: the torso and the bent leg. I tried to replicate the same shape, whether they are large or smaller (like the calf) and brought it to my drawing. And Ta-dah!
Everything I learned here came from books by Michael Hampton (Figure Drawing) and Bridgman, so I highly recommend you read them for a better understanding (for anyone interested of course lol).
