That’s my thing. I think, in the end, vaush was right all along. I was with Paul when he was pushing hard on Biden and criticizing people who would just vote for anyone who isn’t Trump. Yeah so the incredibles definitely has some objectivist themes, and even some lowkey fascist adjacent ones. The film shows a class of super people who are capable of doing extraordinary things if only the normie society with all its rules and regulations would get out of their way. The film is actually pretty explicit about these ideas. It’s kinda like an inverse Watchmen. Just like Watchmen, it posits a world where superheroes are real. But unlike watchmen (which was written by an anarchist) it comes to the conclusion that people with superhuman levels of power don’t need to be watched by any watchmen, because they’ll ultimately do what’s right for everyone in the end. Now I’m not saying that it was intentional on the part of Brad Bird or anyone else involved, to include them, but the themes are there and people have been talking about it for a long time. I’m studying programming in college and I’m sincerely offended by the take that AI art is somehow theft. Models like ChatGPT are meant as testing grounds for us to determine what can be done with AI and how it can further augment us. For example, since we know that we can generate music with AI, we can say, generate an AI security program that scrubs through security camera footage to catch thieves in the act. Suno and ChatGPT I argue serve as testing grounds, and the fact they’re downplayed as simply schemes to steal from artists rather than marvels of the future and reflections of the might of humanity as they should be treated truly offends me.

My Opinion

I’ll go ahead and say it: I know Noah Gervais, love the guy’s work even when I don’t agree with him. If little else, it’s proof that Vaush is not without taste period. One of the first things that started to turn me off to him was his blanket lambasting of 90s popular culture. Was there bad stuff, assuredly. But every decade is guilty of that. Some of the best and worst I can think of came from my birth decade and it got under my skin with how he talked about it in a dismissive manner. Later, he had a vid all about praising Terminator 2. In a vacuum, there’s nothing wrong there but it could be a sign of his opinion amnesia or having no consistency. Maybe T2 was the exception to the rule.

I used to hate the Patreon video player because it never saved where I left off, but it seems to be fixed nowadays. Might just be due to my setup and not something everyone has dealt with, not sure. Anyway, I see no issue with it now, personally.

I don’t understand the hate for the patreon video player? Works fine on my phone. But man, I knew Vaush was a pseudo-intellectual but I had no idea his ice cold takes also existed in the realm of pop-culture. Seriously, is the only reason he has a following due to his audience of children where he makes them feel like revolutionaries by doing absolutely nothing?

They do it so that only patrons are allowed to watch them, unlisted videos are easier to pirate. Unfortunately yeah, Patreon player sucks and chat is lost, too. I wish YT just had a damn Patreon integration already

I’m actually surprised it was the guys first time in countering that reading of the film.
