The things Lestat loved and wanted to free Louis from as a human has obv crossed over. Trying to fast forward who he is to become a better version of himself isn’t working.

2025-04-17 00:38:33 +0000 UTCI love delving into the psyche of these characters and I couldn’t help but focus on lestat this episode. In my mind, when Louis rejects vampirism, Lestat feels that it’s in turn a rejection of him. Louis is not just ashamed of what he is, he is ashamed of what Lestat is too hence why he then goes running to Antoinette to soothe his ego. I also have a theory that Lestat flaunts Antoinette on purpose in front of Louis to provoke him into clinging to Lestat more but it instead does the opposite leading Louis to revisit an “old love”. Personally I think that’s what bothered Lestat more, that there was a shared history between Louis and the soldier, that it wasn’t just some random fling but there was feeling there.

I also think that Louis like to throw racism at Lestat, even though Lestat's intentions are not racist. Louis can be just as hateful as Lestat. I love how Lestat shows him that jazz can be music for anyone.

Some people miss these little cruel moments from Louis. And they build up. Sam Reid is so good - you just see his face completely crumble when he says that to him. He really just wants Louis to embrace being a vampire, but as you also noticed, Louis is always struggling with accepting himself.

Obviously there’s more to Lestat,but regarding religion I think the answer to that is best answered in episode one.

I would add that while we may have diff opinions, it's also helpful to continually revisit our viewpoints. I know my feelings about the characters change often depending on the events. This show is absolutely phenomenal. :)

Louis is totally valid in his struggle with his humanity and Lestat is understandable in his frustration with Louis as he's a much more established vampire who no longer thinks the same. They're SO bad at communicating and it makes everything worse and events continue to unfold as a result of their own mistakes. This show is just so good lol
