FROM THE ARCHIVE - "Hammer-Heads" (2003)

Happy First Day of Autumn, Beloved Patrons! This special day requires a special post from The Tea Club's archive.

This is "Hammer-Heads", a song that I hold very dearly in my heart. It always reminds me of the Fall. It was inspired by the whimsy of The Beatles' White Album, which I was listening to constantly, as well as The Wizard of Oz. In our home, it was a family tradition to watch The Wizard of Oz movie every year in the Fall. That year, I had begun reading the original book The Wonderful Wizard of Oz by L. Frank Baum. I loved the illustrations by W. W. Denslow, particularly the hilariously weird "Hammer-Heads", who could "shoot their own heads" at will. This song was named in their honor.

This is the one and only recording of this little ditty. It was recorded in 2003 on our old TASCAM 4 track cassette recorder, and features me and my brother Pat bantering and chortling in the background while recording guitars. I love Pat's acoustic guitar part. It also features some fun early 2000's Audacity sound manipulation by original drummer Kyle Minnick, then a mere 15 years old. We included it as the last track on our homemade "demo" in 2004, which we sometimes consider to be our first EP, referring to it as "The Tea Club Demo 2004".

It's another lo-fi recording, but give it a chance. I think you might just find it to be a charming little piece of music to enjoy on this Autumnal Equinox.

Thanks Ben! I really love Pat's acoustic guitar part on this, it really gives it a kind of warm celtic vibe :)

You guys were so good at guitar, even way back when!
