Hello my bookish friends. Today we're going to talk about books that have made me laugh. I'm going to try and contain myself, so I'm going to keep the list to five books. FIVE. We'll see how successful I am.
Rosaline Palmer Takes the Cake by Hall (Adult, Romance)--look, all of Hall's books are funny. Boyfriend Material was an absolute stitch. So why did I pick Rosaline, then? Because there's a scene in that book involving a pitcher of tea that honestly is pitch perfect in comedic timing. There's some argument as to whether Rosaline counts as romance, but I consider it as such and this is my post, so...I DO WHAT I WANT.
Eyre Affair by Jasper Fforde (Adult, Fiction)--all of Fforde's books have humor in them, so really, pick your flavor, but the Eyre Affair has a running gag about the main character's dad popping in from different moments in time to ask her if she knew who Churchill was yet that makes me laugh. That and Miss Havisham drag racing.
Book Lovers by Emily Henry (Adult, Romance)--lots of stuff made me laugh in this book. Lots. But I think its especially funny if you've seen a lot of those holiday movies where the big city guy goes back to his small town and falls in love with a owner of a cupcake shop or a tree farm...because this is about the woman he leaves behind. That likes to live in the city and loves her job and doesn't want any of that.
Truly Devious by Maureen Johnson (Young Adult, Mystery)--alongside the spooky mystery, Stevie just has a delightfully funny take on things. I think Johnson is particularly good at situational humor as well.
Lust Lizard of Melancholy Cove or Bloodsucking Fiends a Love Story by Christopher Moore (Adult, Fiction): much like Terry Pratchett, I think all of Moore's books are funny. But for jokes, these two stuck with me because the first has a scene involving a B-movie barbarian queen actress, a sea monster, and a weed whacker that has stuck with me. The second has a three sentence chapter that I used to have memorized, but it was an entire chapter dedicated to a joke.
Look, I basically stuck to five-ish! I'm going to call it a win. Obviously I didn't cover them all. Terry Pratchett has some amazingly funny book. House on the Cerulean Sea was hilarious. Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy made me laugh. Soulmate Equation and I know I mentioned Scalzi's Kaiju Preservation Society on here. In Romance Talia Hibbert, Mia Sosa, and Alyssa Cole all have made me laugh, too.
But hey, I'm sticking to five here! Ish. Heavy on the ish.
What books made you laugh? Post in the comments!
