Episode One and what Faraway IS~

I have already had voice-actor recording sessions with two out of the five actors featured in the first episode (along side myself of course~) and the remaining sessions will be taking place this coming week

Ep0 only featured myself as a voice actor so I filmed first, then recorded all the vocal work, then edited it all together

For Ep1 I have changed up the order- I am recording VA work first, then I will be filming the visual parts, then recording my own VA work, then editing of course

I have never worked on a project like this before, so I am definitely taking a 'learn as I go' approach to discovering what works best, what is most efficient and what gives the best results

Faraway, from the very beginning, was all about pushing my skills and knowledge and trying something new to me. I love acting, video editing, writing, prop and costume making and ESPECIALLY world building. I wanted a project that I could do all that, and also step into the worlds of sound mixing, folley work, and voice acting which I had never done before

Most of all, I needed a project that would incorporate all this, whilst not requiring elaborate sets, costumes, and the budgets that come with those, not to mention actors to match

The idea for Faraway taking a kind of 'captains journal log' was the obvious answer. By pairing simple stationary video diary recordings, with audio logs from adventures mentioned in the diaries, I could get the best of all worlds. A sort of web-series-come-podcast. It was also important that nearly everyone could partake;

You can essentially enjoy Faraway completely via audio- even the diary logs- and you can enjoy it completely visually, with the entire episodes subtitled and the audio-adventures presented in text also. I can't attest to how interesting it would be to watch them thusly, but I considered it bare minimum to at least attempt to cater to deaf, hard-of-hearing and visually impaired viewers

A story is meant to be shared, naturally, and Faraway is -at the end of it all- me sharing a story. Regardless of how many views it gets, or any kind of revenue or regard it could potentially draw- if even one person connects with Faraway in any way I will have done what I set out to do

Faraway is precious to me. Never in my life has a project stuck with me for so long, and so thoroughly, to the point where I fall asleep EVERY night thinking about plot, and set design, and props I could make, and effects I can use, and ways to bring the soundscapes alive, and how to expand on the characters and really bring out their dimensions, and how I can just really bring the Faraway that I feel inside me out for others to experience

I may be a dead broke, disabled LGBT person just try'na make it week to week like everyone else, but I have known some good fortune when I needed it most. I have the very bare-essential ingredients to make this soup, and I am happy to keep scraping my barrel to get the most out of what I have and make Faraway happen the way I have so far

Because in the end a story is in the telling, and a huge budget has never guaranteed a story was told right. As long as I just keep telling it I will have already made myself proud~
