Real-Time Process | Golden

Hi everyone! Here is the realtime process video for my latest painting "Golden". I will have a Youtube video coming out soon about what I've been up to, but I would love to film a more in-depth video for you guys, so feel free to leave me any questions you have!

Early Access to my latest video!

Hi everyone! Here is my latest Youtube video that will be out shortly. It's the process of this Patreon postcard, and I wanted to talk a little bit about how my updated painting process includes only one brush. I just realized this the other day!

Let me know your thoughts and how many brushes you use when you paint!

early access to my bedroom makeover!

Hi hi! Here's my next Youtube video coming up. It took me over a month and a half to finish but I love the outcome. I wish that more of it was thrifted, but bedroom furniture is hard to find when thrifting, as well as hard to transport due to size, so buying online has been the simpler option. My studio makeover should have some more DIY and thrifted elements to it, and I'm excited to make a dedicated filming space in it!

Patreon Postcard for May

Hi everyone! Here is my latest Patreon postcard for May. I've been slowly getting back into painting fuller pieces in Photoshop instead of Procreate, and I've been enjoying it a lot after having a break from serious digital painting. I want to continue experimenting with styles and colors, and I love the dreamy and sketchy look of this piece.

I've also been brainstorming what paintings I want to create for my book; the manuscript is due at the end of July, and the book is going to have over 25 painting tutorials and be around 150-200 pages. I'm a little overwhelmed, especially since I haven't practically started on the book other than planning. I would love to show you glimpses into the process, but I can't show off too much of the book to you. Let me know if you'd like me to record a video documenting the process of writing and creating this book! It's going to be a digital painting guide specifically for beginners (I'm going to start from square one when it comes to color theory and composition), and I really hope it's going to be a useful reference for you guys.

Anyway! Postcards and rewards are in the mail, so hopefully you guys get those soon, and I'll be updating you on June's rewards this next week! My goal is to be early with creating rewards in the month and then mail them out as soon as your pledges process.

Early Access to my latest video

Hi everyone! Here is early access to my new video about my experience with going to a liberal arts college for my design major. Let me know if you have any thoughts or questions; this video is a very long one. I've been slowly building up more and more feelings about my education in the four years I went to school, and I am so so happy to have graduated and to be done.

Thank you for supporting me along the way; I'm so excited to be back into the groove of being a fulltime freelancer!

early access to my latest video- starting a new chapter

Hi everyone! Here is my latest video coming out; I wanted to talk about some of the struggles I had growing up and with mental health, and how I've progressed and reconciled with it. Thank you for all the support and listening to my story! I'm excited to continue growing my platform with honesty about mental health and the person that I truly am, and I hope this encourages you to also seek out happiness and peach if you're not encouraged to do so elsewhere.

UPDATE ON TIERS!

Hi hi hi!

So starting in June, I'm going to be changing up tiers a tiny bit;

I'm going to switch the $1 to $2, $5 and $10 will be merged into shared rewards for $7, and my sticker tier will go down from $20 to $16!!

So new tiers:

$2- base

$7- videos and process work

$12- postcard

$16- stickers

$50- original sketch

(higher tiers will, of course, still include the lower tier rewards as they do currently!)

I'm also planning on starting tiny contests in which I'll be giving away an original sketch, drawing, or painting to a patron of any tier! This isn't a randomly chosen giveaway, but I'm going to be selecting patrons based on engagement and the support they've shown in the past. So if you want to be gifted art, then check in with me and leave me a comment on my posts :-) you don't have to be a long time patron to be eligible, but if you're active here, I'll know you're up to getting some extra rewards. I might do more than one drawing a month--we shall see!

I'm hoping to expand this to tablets and art supplies as I begin creating more review videos and want to gift you some supplies! Art supplies and tablets aren't guaranteed just yet, but I can almost confidently say that I will start that up as well.

Let me know your thoughts on these tier changes, and if you have any suggestions for other rewards you'd like from me!

April's postcard + some updates

Hi hi! I wanted to check in with you on some fun major things happening recently! First off, this is April's postcard design. I'm finishing up some matching sticker designs and packaging everything up this weekend. This should hypothetically be the last month that I don't have rewards out a day or two after all payments are processed, and that's because ... *drumroll* I just graduated!! I have one online class that I'm still working on, but it ends tomorrow, and after that, I'm freeeeeeeeee!

Also, my roommate is moving out this week, and I'm planning on moving my bedroom into hers and then converting my current bedroom into the studio! I'm hoping to record a bedroom makeover and a studio makeover, so let me know if that's something you want to see!! My current bedroom is way too big to just be a bedroom, and I realized that I can move all my art supplies and furniture up there and let me dining room be an actual dining room. Big plans on home improvement coming.

Another fun thing is my boyfriend is moving back to my tiny town in the next two weeks! We've been long-distance for most of our relationship (we've seen each other plenty but have both sacrificed a lot of work time up to be able to do so), and I'm so excited for a more regular work schedule as he moves back and we can see each other whenever without the three-hour commute.

I also wanted to share that for music, I've been obsessed with First Aid Kit. You gotta try them out and let me know what you think; I'm moving into this new season of life trying to be as positive and vibey as possible, and Americana everything has been the perfect "nostalgic" kick for my creativity.

early access to my latest video ☆

Hiiiii! Here is an early release of my latest video; I edited this in Final Cut Pro instead of Premiere Pro, and I looooove it so much more. I'm very excited to get into better video editing and consistent posting. Let me know what suggestions or ideas you have for future video topics.

I want to post some fun type of videos as well (like trying out art TikTok hacks or bedroom and studio makeover now that my roommate is moving out in a week or two). Thank you for all the support! Hopefully, if you're also in school, you've been ending your semester with some sanity left over.

newest painting+ exciting updates+ some art I've made

Hi everyone! I've been staying busy at my internship this month (working full time for no moolah) so I've been burned out creatively on this final stretch. I've been slowly chipping away at some landscaping as the weather is perfect for being outside has been changing. I hate humid summers, so I've been trying to get ahead on outdoor projects while temperatures are moderate. I've planted some apricot tea roses and white gardenias in front of my house, and this week I've been pruning my crepe myrtles. So you can basically say I'm a gardening expert, right?

With this rest, I've been finding my back and wrist straining going away a bit. Staying away from sketching or painting has also encouraged me to brainstorm more about what I want my paintings to evoke and where I want my art to go. Being connected with nature and starting to get into the world of tattooing (following tattoo artists and designing tattoos for my friends) has also opened me up to new subject matter and creativity. I've been enjoying thinking up what pieces I want on my own body, and that's helped me translate new concepts into my art. I hope to begin creating more art that evokes my emotions and is personal to me once more. I used to paint like that in the old days (all my darker art), and that passion trailed off as I was looking at creating art as a job and something that was marked by deadlines.

This piece is pretty basic as far as concepts go, but I had fun with slowly dipping my toes in the pool of *backgrounds*, and all the cherry blossoms have been blooming in my town. My seasonal depression has been fading, and I definitely have so much excitement for this summer.

Which leads me to three things I'm gonna be doing this summer.

1. BE A BARISTA AT MY FAVORITE COFFEE SHOP!!!!!!! You heard me right; I'm living the dream of being a little barista artist. I'm so excited to learn how to make amazing coffee.

2. WRITE AN ACTUAL BOOK. I've just signed the contract. I'm working on a book on digital painting with a real publisher. It will be 150-200 pages and have about 25 projects in it. The manuscript is due at the end of July, and I'm taking many of my own reference photos with models for it. I'm so excited to make a beautiful book explaining my process for you.

3.  MOVE MY SHOP TO AN OFFICE SPACE! One of my good friends in town is renting out an office with his friend to turn into a recording studio. During the day, it's going to be a shared office space with some other friends, and we've talked about me moving my shop to the office. This would increase my productivity sooo much, and I can imagine so many good things in store for my shop if I do take this leap. I want to know what shop products you want!!! Also, I probably will be painting a mural in the office..!

And lastly (this is a deadline at the end of this month), but I'm going to be creating some ✨sustainable✨ shirts! It's gonna be a short one week launch with KOTN, and I'm going to be doing a front and back design, so if you have ideas for the design, pleaseplease let me know. I'm thinking of something magical/plant themed. The color of the shirts will be this dusty cream color. I'm sooooo excited.

Tattoo designs

Here are two cute tattoo designs I made for my friends. I'm excited to do some more in the future, and working in this different style has inspired me in my own art.

I've attached PDF of some of the fun stuff I've worked on recently.

Let me know how you're doing! Have you also been affected by seasonal depression? And do you have any short term goals when it comes to art, productivity, or lifestyle?

hiiii! I wanted to give you all early access to my latest video. I wanted to talk to about some of the stuff that's been on my mind and that I've been learning. I've been going to counseling since January, and revisiting and processing a lot of my trauma has been taking a toll on me.

I wanted to paint a self portrait that reflected this period of my life, and something that was based on the artistic process and less on the final outcome. I love the end result, and I hope this video makes sense and is useful for someone!

Hi! Here's the real time process for my February postcard! Hopefully you enjoy seeing some of the trial and error of this piece.

how my february went

hi hi!

Wow; February came and went for me. I can't believe I haven't posted anything this past month-- trying to amend as much as possible right before midnight hits hahaha!

Firstly, I wanted to upload a small PDF of what I've been working on this month. I haven't been sketching at all, and haven't had time for personal art since I've been slammed with my internship, practicum, community service, and school. I can show you the small projects I've worked on for work; my internship and practicum have the most random projects to work on!

An update on the counseling; I've been going for the past couple of weeks, and it's been both very good and very hard. It's been difficult to accept that a lot of what I'm talking through is actual trauma I've gone through instead of being just in my head. My counselor told me I had to let myself experience grief bursts, so I've honestly been doing a lot worse on my mental health this past month. I've had some pretty bad depression mixed with the amount of work I've had for internships and school, and I've fallen behind on my schoolwork (three weeks behind). Talking to my close friends, I understand that all of this is part of the process, so I'm ultimately doing okay, but it's also okay to say that this past month has been tough.

We've also been having some ice storms with everyone else. My house is over 100 years old, so it got crazy chilly through it all, and we experienced a couple of power outages through it. Luckily, everything is all okay! Very grateful to be okay, and I definitely hope you also have been doing well through the storms.

A really crazy, fun update is: I got my first tattoos!!

I've wanted to get a baby's breath tattoo for a long while now, and it's something I've thought about a lot. Baby's breath is my favorite flower; they're the little white flowers that come with rose bouquets. I think they're so underrated. The little moon tattoo was a lot more impulsive, but (if you've seen any of my art) you know I love celestial themes and the moon. I love stars the absolute most but think star tattoos are lowkey not cute, so I decided to get a little moon with a cute sleepy face. I'm so happy with the two tattoos, and I'm so excited for more! I'm already thinking up more ideas and placement.

How are you doing and how have you been this past month? I hope you're doing well; very excited for March, warmer weather, and more daylight!

some new art, *new year's resolutions*, & updates

Hey everyone! Hope you're doing well since I last checked in.

I know the new year doesn't mean the dumpster fire we're currently experiencing is over, but I've personally made a couple of changes to my life (not New Year's resolutions, but goals I set mid-December) that I wanted to share with you.

Don't purchase any clothing for six months

I love finding fun clothes, especially online thrifting, which is a really bad habit when you have a closet built in the 1920s. There's barely room for my sweaters and hoodies, and I can't fit my jackets on the rack. I had a huge walk-in closet in my old apartment, and I definitely sacrificed closet space with my house. Maybe two years ago, I had a goal to not purchase any clothing for one entire year unless I *needed* it (underwear, socks, a specific basic that wore out) and I completely kept to it! I didn't thrift or buy anything new, which was crazy for both my bank account and my own sustainability and consumerism. I'm sorely tempted to at least continue thrifting, but unless I leave something in the rack and dream about it that night, I won't be buying any new or thrifted clothing for 6 months.

Counseling

I just made my first appointment for counseling! I'm so excited; this has been something I've wanted to do since March. I had terrible anxiety at the end of March and beginning of April, and the summer was really hard for me relationally. Apart from Covid and social justice in America, I've been struggling with my self-worth, overthinking, trauma from past experiences, and my relationship with my family. I had talked to my boyfriend and close friends about how I wanted to start counseling, and then everything went into lockdown. This was and has been really hard on my mental health, and I've been trying to "self-medicate": write stream of consciousness, set manageable goals for the way I communicate and handle situations, and remove toxic people and habits out of my life. My first meeting is on the 26th!

Get piercings (maybe tattoos)

I've wanted tons of piercings since I was 15; it's definitely a theme in my drawings, and I've always thought they're so fun. I wasn't allowed to have my ears pierced growing up; I did this crazy rebellious thing and got my ears pierced when I was 20, but I've been scared to do any further body modifications because of my parents. Something I want to cover in my counseling is the lack of personal autonomy I feel even though I am fully self-sufficient. Making decisions over my own body is something I am allowed to do (I'm 22, my parents can't control me forever?!), and piercings are for sure the first step towards that. I got my seconds pierced a couple months ago, and I just got my thirds and rook this past week! Lots of healing to do, but I'm on a kick. I'm waiting to do my cartilage with Zac, but watch me get something else in the meantime...

In the same vein of having autonomy over my body and aesthetic choices, I might start getting the tattoos I've been thinking about for a couple years now. I love the look of sticker tattoos, and my end goal is to have tons of tattoos over my arms, chest, back, and hands. Don't say anything mean, I'm fragile, and this is the first time I'm sharing this on the internet hahaha.

Change my hair up!

This was the most impulsive. I didn't plan to do anything major with my hair; I was planning on doing a blonde balyage with my mid-length hair. However, I crazy impulsively decided to dye my hair black and cut it into a bob. I love it. Love love love. This is the most I've felt like me in.. ever? I think this suits me really well, and if I continue loving the black, I'll get it as a permanent color (it's currently semi-permanent).

Tons of aesthetic changes, but I've been very happy with them all by now!

Eat less meat- when I do, only organic

This one is kinda weird, but I don't love cheap meat. I don't prepare a crazy amount of meat to begin with (I cook with a mostly pescatarian diet) and that's because cheaper meat makes me feel more sick. I grew up eating only organic, low sugar, and even vegetarian for a good couple of years, so my body isn't fully adjusted to more processed food. Buying all my groceries in a smaller town is kinda hard. I don't have Whole Foods or Trader Joe's to quickly hit up for healthier essentials, and I don't spend a lot of time researching what meats to purchase at the regular grocery store. Obviously, organic food and meat is a lot more expensive than conventional, and that's a reason I haven't been purchasing good meat. However, if I am going to be eating meat, I want it to be healthy. I plan to meal prep more, be intentional with when I do eat meat, and to only purchase good quality meat.  (How many times have I said MEAT) My goal for this year is to be healthier inside and out, and budgeting for good quality food is one thing I want to keep to this year.

Those are all my personal goals at the moment! I just applied to graduate today, filled out the info I want on my diploma, and also found out that commencement and graduation will be virtual. I don't want to compromise health for myself or anyone else, but honestly, that stinks. I didn't have a high school graduation since I was homeschooled, and I was banking on a college graduation to at least say "yo, you worked a lot and this is the culmination of all of that". Super bummed, I don't wanna graduate on Zoom, but my roommate and I will make the best of it! Definitely gonna have a little roommate grad party (just us two and the cats).

And I got a switch! Better late than never; been grinding on my Animal Crossing island. Lemme know if you want me to share about it!

Do you guys have anything to share? I'm definitely wondering how you guys are approaching 2021 since we all know nothing is going back to normal any time soon. How are you coping?

Here's a little playlist for you: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/3T8zLwyOA0s9vHAYpYglRO?si=hZ36RAMyR0ivPfUjHRoaeg

"Hellebores" Real-Time Process

Hey everyone!

Here's January's postcard design. I wanted to paint something a little different than my usual, so I opted for a Renaissance-inspired girl with hellebores in her hair. Let me know your thoughts!  This was definitely a long one. I wanted to make sure that all the details and brushstrokes were well painted!

starting a new sketchbook

Hey everyone!

How were your holidays this year? I definitely took a bit of a break for Christmas and New Year's, but I am baaackk!

I spent the holidays with my boyfriend (his birthday is New Year's Eve) and we had such a nice relaxing time together. Right before Christmas, my car broke down, and after towing to my dealership for a diagnostic, they told me that the transmission and front axle needed to be immediately changed, among other things. The immediate fixes I needed to make on the car were around $4500, not including some other small things that needed to be fixed. It was super discouraging since I bought the car last December and put down the full amount on it, but I traded it in and purchased a new car. Definitely crazy times! I'm at least glad to have an extensive warranty now that takes care of anything that would break in the car; I'm not mechanically minded, and it is crazy that my transmission completely gave out on a car that's not even 10 years old. I haven't financed a car before, so this was a very crazy and spontaneous choice to make, but I definitely didn't have the savings to purchase an entire new car. I'm glad of the decision and having a car that will last me for a long time!

I wanted to start a new sketchbook now that the new year has come; I don't have any sketchbooks that are empty or have a paper I want to work on, so I went to my local small business art shop and picked up two sketchbooks: the Handbook drawing sketchbook and the Strathmore 300 series mixed media sketchbook. I HATE the paper in the Handbook drawing sketchbook, but it was all wrapped up when I purchased it, so I couldn't feel the surface of the paper. I love an insanely smooth surface, and the mixed media sketchbook works decently for that purpose.

The eye, bubble braid girl, and boots are going to be December's stickers! I have to charge my iPad after two weeks of not using it and finish up the designs, but I'm happy with them!

I'll begin working on January's postcard and stickers tonight/tomorrow, and I'll be sure to share them with you!

I've also been considering adding another tier; a print tier for around $30; that would include either a 5x7in. or 8x10in. print with the three stickers and postcard! Let me know if it's something you're interested in! I could make it be an aesthetic sketchbook page, a digital painting, or a drawing/traditional painting from them month!

Hope you're doing well!

"Elsa" Real-Time Process Video

Hi! Here's the real-time process for my painting of Elsa from Frozen. Usually, I focus on painting the face, and then rush through the hair, clothing, and environment, but I really wanted to focus on creating a cohesive painting. I took my time working on all the elements, taking breaks and forcing myself to make sure all the details were as clean and polished as I wanted them to be. Finally, I added some filters over the image to make it more dreamy: kind of like an 80s glowy photo.

I also used some new brushes for this painting, and if I keep using and incorporate them into my process, I will let you know which ones they are!

Hopefully this is helpful for you! Thanks for watching :-)

Thoughts about my art recently

Hello! I wanted to jump in and share some of the thoughts I've been having about my art style, the direction I want my art to go in, and what I've been thinking about in relation to growing my business and brand.

As an artist who loves experimenting with different media, I love working with both traditional and digital media. Learning gouache, watercolors, oil paints, acrylics, charcoal, graphite, and digital (in Photoshop, Krita, and Procreate) is so fun for me. I love switching up what I'm working with, and maintaining a pretty basic subject matter (mostly portraiture). I think my skills have been improving in all those areas, but slowly as I navigate all the different media and techniques. I've been relying on switching up my medium in order to get out of art block, and to feel motivated to keep working.

I didn't realize what the actual issue with my art block has been--inconsistent sketching and thumbnailing. I don't love ideating anything, I genuinely don't! As an artist, that is WILDLY inconvenient, but I'm not a creative person! So I've been relying on interesting references from Pinterest to essentially mash up together and copy, and I've been displeased with my artwork. On top of that, I've been focusing on trying to create more aesthetic videos documenting my traditional work, and for all the time and energy I've been putting into them, their views are much lower than my digital painting videos.

I've been struggling with the relationship of my views and artwork for a while now. It seems that my digital paintings and sketches get the most views, and my watercolors, gouache, and oil paintings really don't get a lot of traction. As someone who has always planned on improving myself classically, this is super frustrating. I don't feel like my audience wants me to pursue a more classical style, and so I haven't been motivated in my digital paintings or sketches at all. I just have been feeling stuck, which is no bueno.

I sat down yesterday and wrote down my goals, and what I want for this next year. I thought about the successful brand deals and sponsorships, and the unsuccessful ones, and the delineating factor was good quality digital art for the successful brand deals, and oil/watercolors for my unsuccessful. Dang, that's hard to think about. I wanna grow in all aspects of my art, but my watercolors and oil paintings are essentially hurting my business. I don't want to create just digital artwork, but it's definitely the most impactful for my audience.

I think a big switch in my mindset in relation to all of this change and growth was thinking through the perspective of my audience. I remember trying to absorb any and all digital painting tutorials and speedpaints when I was 11 and just starting out with digital, and it was sooooo helpful and inspiring for me. While I was still interested in watercolor videos, I was much more daunted by the fact that I didn't have amazing art supplies or the skill to create beautiful paintings. Digital was different because I could make so many full-color, full bodied paintings and improve noticeably. I feel caught up in making tutorials and digital speedpaints sometimes, and I feel that there's no more for me to teach or talk about (and that's just not true). I forget that my old digital painting videos on color theory or anatomy are so far removed from my current style, and that I can remake so many of the video topics I've already covered. In addition, I can thumbnail and come up with larger, creative concepts for my digital paintings.

And that's what I did for November's postcard; I sat down and thumbnailed in my sketchbook, and then took my time with the painting. I love the outcome, and I know it's something that resonates with my audience. I feel that for the moment, I should put my traditional artwork, apart from sketchbook sketches, to the side. I want to be effective in the time I spent working and creating artwork, and I want to be impactful for my audience. All this to say, if you want to still see traditional work from me, I can post it here! It can be behind-the-scenes looks into my art, and it might be beneficial for you!

I want to take my Youtube channel back in the direction of digital painting tutorials, process videos, reviews of tablets and hardware, and looks into my Procreate workflow. This is something I'm going to test out and see if it's more successful. I can work within limitations and still grow in my skills and process.

Let me know your thoughts! Is this something you've struggled with as well? It's very hard for me to narrow down on just one medium to just consistently, so I'm wondering if you've had a similar experience to me!

November's Postcard!

Hi!! Here is this month's postcard. I'm so sad that fall is basically over, but I can still paint with  autumnal colors and daydream!! My fall and winter outfits are hands down my best, so I've been thriving getting dressed in the morning and taking cozy drives through nature.

I was also in the mood to make some cute, vintage-inspired sticker designs for this month. I know I said I would be switching over to just one sticker a month, but I didn't find designing these difficult! I feel like I just got in a better Procreate workflow this month, so I would love to show you the brushes I've been using and how I've streamlined my process.

Hope you're doing well and have been staying safe and happy!

Some Updates!!

Hiiii!

Let me catch you up on what's been going on with me! I've been working on lots of my school job, as well as small home makeover things. This week, I'm going to be printing the three postcards I haven't sent out yet--- the only issue is I still haven't been able to design the 9 stickers to go with those!! I just feel stuck on my sticker ideas, and I hate printing and cutting with my Cricut.

Starting next month, I'm going to be sending out only one sticker instead of three for the Honey Tier, but something a little larger and more detailed! We'll see how that goes :-)

Firstly, I've been working on my office space redo! I painted the walls, changed out the white ikea furniture for some wooden furniture that fits the space better, and then organized the basement to store some of the supplies I don't use frequently since I don't have any closets in my house! I still have to set up my Alienware gear on the desk, and then I can finish filming, editing, and posting the video! It's been so wonderful to work in this decluttered space. Having a proper table in a cozy room to work on any art or school has helped my productivity so much! I feel motivated to sit at my desk and crank out work, and then when I'm finished working for the day, the couch or my bed are actually relaxing and cozy again!!

This is what the front of my house has been looking like! Unfinished steps, and gross brick with an ugly reddish porch??

I power washed the whole house (sooooo satisfying), and then painted the porch, steps, and brick black and the hand rails white! This took three days, but look how much better!!

I still have to paint the window trim black, and paint the mailbox post white, but I'm so happy with this change! The only big thing left to fix in this house is the kitchen, which hopefully will happen in November?!

This is October's postcard design; I painted Emily from the Corpse Bride, and I had a really good time with it! I'm planning on filming another video this week, and hopefully continue posting 3-4 videos a month, but we'll see how that goes! I'm trying to learn more about how to boost CPM and the best ways to interact with subscribers and an audience! Spent a lot of time researching that yesterday.

Lastly, I made you guys a little playlist of my favorite tunes this fall season!! https://open.spotify.com/playlist/2T8hU6uVXwtRKc78sUgqE1?si=Fh6wp-4KShOUrufYYlO8Og

How are you guys holding up? Anything fun you've been up to or any art you've been loving, been inspired by, or creating? Let me know!!
