September poll

August is moving too fast.

Have you considered just letting the bishops be the only voters you Protestant heathen

Sam

Angela, have you thought of employing ranked choice voting? Even if you didn't implement it, it would be interesting to see the difference (if there was any) in the final result. I like all your stuff. Except country music. I did like the video on it, I'm just not a fan of the genre. I'm only a contranarian, but I would love to see the results of the polls.

Dang Maxwell would’ve been really fun too.

I am one of the most critical people of psychiatrists there is. Most of them are terrible listeners, they just let you talk for a few minutes and then give you whatever the anti-depressant du jour is. Having said all that, I think just mocking the DSM is not fair. I may hate most psychiatrists but there are a few good ones. Also, one reason I don't like psychiatrists is they get paid the big bucks while therapists and nurses (who do most of the work) are underpaid. But those people work their butts off. It isn't an easy job, I worked in a psych hospital before I started working with computers and I got totally burned out. It's hard to balance being empathic to patients and not getting totally depressed at how often they seem to get better, only to end up right back where they were a few months later. It took me a while to find a good therapist but when I did, she helped me change my life in ways I thought would never be possible. People like her deserve respect. Also, when you mock DSM you are also mocking all the people who rely on psych meds to make their lives livable. I think there are a lot of issues with the way psych meds are prescribed but for several of my friends medication really helped them go from a terrible life to a decent or even great life.

In case you're wondering, I throw out all of the current diagnoses and replace them with new ones like Technopathy and Psychologism. I am also much more transparent about all the eugenics, moneymaking opportunities, and overall shenanigans this pseudoscience enables practitioners to get away with.

Enjoyed rewatching your "mass" video. I love the technical posts (lots o' math) and following the details of how physics is done on the ground, so Maxwell or published paper is my strange attractor. Also love the way you dig into the history and give credit to less well-known scientists who did essential work that underpin major theoretical discoveries.

Ed Roberts

Also i just rewatched your concrete video. I'm a structural engineer and studied this at uni and then designed stuff for nearly 20 years. I'd totally watch you do a 3 hour video on concrete called The Sham Legacy of Roman Concrete or How Cement: Portland Ruined.... (You can finish the pithy title)

Public education but not Abbott Elementary.

Eric Dahl

Whichever one seems easiest when you're surrounded by boxes you don't want to open right now

I voted for the published paper because Im curious which one Angela would choose, how it would actually read, and how she could make "exhausting detail" actually be very entertaining. 🙂

Jeff

More public education less Abbott elementary

JungMoses

Which Maxwell? Maxwell Jacob Freeman, the wrestler? Or the “other” James Clerk Maxwell?

Tweed Tarot

Looks like public education (/abbot elementary) is second last... but I would love to hear your thoughts. Education research is... a field with so many issues... even some of the wannabe "data driven" famous names are pseudoscientific grifters.

PJ B

Almost exactly 100 years since The Monkey Trial -- surely you could tie that in to "something about public education"?
