Hell yeah. Brad DeLong cited you, Angela, in his substack today 25-07-16 on AI risk. FYI, he agrees with you about AI hype. But he says a god-emperor machine is a possible outcome in the long run; the abuse is here now. I would point to Iranian thought police already using face recognition to catch women driving cars with their head hair showing, for which crime their car is impounded. Brad also critiques both capitalism & socialism. Here I would appeal to physics: a just society that delivers complete equality needs stability, which maybe means a kind of heat death. Close to equilibrium... ie, nearly zero-sum. Where'd we direct our creativity? Would we still be able to magnify our actions as much as the ideas of ownership & exchange, our unique human advantage, enable us to do? At the top of my list: enslaving the women is bad. An unmitigated disaster for humanity. In that, I am not at the front of this pack--ie, present company. Keep on keeping on, DrC. Cheers!
