Alien: Earth - Ep.1X8 "The Real Monsters" UNCUT & UNCENSORED

Well, with that, we close out the first (and hopefully not last) season of "Alien: Earth". In retrospect, after marinating on this now for a little over a week... I can certainly agree that, while extremely enjoyable and high quality throughout, it is not an especially "perfect" show.

I don't mind a bit of a "cliffhanger", or the idea of the show-runner(s) keeping some cards close to the chest, but I gotta admit that there are a LOT of plot threads not really closed out that I thought surely would've been by this point. It's all clearly a setup for a second season, and while I'm ok with that overall, seeing a bit more culminate in the way of character arcs would've honestly been a bit more preferred.

Minor complaints aside, I love that we got a whole SEASON of an "Alien" show that was as good as it was. A wonderful homage in design and execution to what has come before, while also striving to innovate and voyage into entirely uncharted narrative waters. This show took some big, bold swings that the franchise has never quite dipped into before, and for that alone it's earned my respect. Hopefully, with more funding and popularity, I can see Season 2's writing getting tighter. Hopefully a few more episode to flesh out characters and make major narrative/character beats more impactful as well :)

Comments

Regarding last episodes comments, this show isn’t on par with Interview or the like but I never expected it to be. It’s just supposed to be fun and entertaining and it checks those boxes well. I agree about the pacing though, way too fast. I really wanted to understand Kirsch better, as well.

You’re not wrong about the corpos. My main issue, though, is that I don’t feel much balance in the storytelling. There aren’t many characters I feel genuinely attached to, and several end up being more irritating than engaging. Kersh is interesting, but his actions feel inconsistent, and I can’t quite make sense of them..perhaps, like some of the older models, he’s beginning to lose direction. Wendy works for me most of the time, but honestly, Smee (Jonathan Ajayi) is the only character I find truly redeemable. I’d like someone I can actually root for, but her brother’s storyline feels underwhelming. When I said the series was “spiraling downward,” I didn’t mean it was bad. Just that it feels flat for me. It started out stronger and captured more of the tone of the classic Alien franchise early on, but the impact tapered off as it progressed. I’ve always leaned more toward Predator. (I think you'll love "Prey") Granted, only a couple of the films were genuinely strong, but I find the species itself far more compelling. A live-action Predator series would be something I’d really enjoy. As for this show, I wouldn’t say I’m a huge fan. At this point, I’m mainly watching to see how The Eye develops. Ideally taking over the world and wiping out everyone except Smee.
