The optimal way to play is to just save in front of spinners and if they catch you reset. The answer is never to fight them. Especially if they could be difficult. So I don't see a realistic scenario where any Pokemon is forced to do the battles and struggle in the way that you suggest. If I make these battles all mandatory then for the vast majority of Pokemon the run is just longer and more boring and it asymmetrically punishes Pokemon that would struggle against those trainers because they are truly optional.

I understand the desire to eliminate the random spinning trainers, but I think it's a mistake from a scientific standpoint. Compared to always fighting the spinners (or at least the random ones), you avoid an overall inflation of all times, but you massively reward any Pokemon that might have been "walled" by, say, a Hiker with a lot of Geodudes or a PokeFan with some tricky Pikachus. I realize the experience of being 'walled' is no fun, but I think you could wind up missing out on why some Pokemon are just not very fun to play. Since there's a category of data you lose by making the spinners have social anxiety, and among most consistent Pokemon the increase in playtime should be relatively fairly distributed, I think you should just fight the spinners.

While I understand the plight of a ground type not getting dig, I feel like the devs saw the elephant and figured it was too big to be digging. Just a theory though

Can't wait for the Johto beasts race. I just made that video on my own. I wonder 🤔 if we'll get different results

What a pair of beasts Donphan and Ursaring! I had Silver so never got to use Ursaring, kind of funny looking back how I tended to avoid using normal types. PS let’s not do down Ampharos’ performance!
