Update 7/9/23
Added 2023-07-09 18:30:58 +0000 UTCHello, Patrons!
We've got a bunch of content this week!
1. The attached video.
This is a real-time swim-through of our test level (not the gameplay map). Keep in mind the level is very barebones in order to reduce unnecessary GPU strain while working on things like the movement system and gameplay logic, meaning no fish or fancy particle effects, etc. I have a system for adding splashes for the entry/exit when breaching, but it's disabled at the moment because I'm not satisfied with the quality.
2. Our stat system:
Attributes
Our stat system is based on three attributes: Body, Mind, and Soul, referred to as Core stats. The Core stats are subdivided into secondary stats (Aspects) as follows:
Body Aspects:
Fortitude (HP and regeneration)
Strength (physical damage)
Agility (surge and speed)
Mind Aspects:
Intellect (crafting skill)
Intuition (luck and crit across all disciplines)
Memory (boosts during cave-dives and ruin-delves)
Soul Aspects:
Song (buffs, debuffs)
Spirit (magic damage)
Harmony (attunement and animal taming)
Points in Core and Aspects contribute to Derived Combat Stats, which are used for most calculations.
Derived Stats:
- Health
- Stability
- Attack Power
- Spell Power
- Attack/Cast Speed
- Crit Chance
- Attunement (The strength of Nix's abilities, and how often you can combo with them)
- Surge
- Surge Regen
- Movement Speed
- Physical Resistance
- Magic Resistance
When leveling up, the player receives five points to distribute between the Core stats, but must put at least one point in each Core, meaning the only possible distributions (per level) are 3-1-1 and 2-2-1. Increasing a Core will lift all associated aspects by a small amount. Aspects also increase via use of their related skills (example: a player who uses mostly magic attacks will eventually have a very strong Spirit aspect). There is a skill tree for each associated Core stat, with a branch for each aspect, meaning a total of nine skill trees. Aspect growth grants points to spend in their related skill trees, and finding a Shrine of Merkayne grants a free point to spend anywhere.
3. Survey Results
And finally, here are some of the results from the survey!
