Comic Report #129.2 - A Knock At The Door

Hello! We're rounding out to the end of the month and I'm happy to say, I'm on the last phase of the comic process and I should have this thing wrapped up before the weekend is over. I'm gonna be a bit quick today since I'm close to my target and I wanna just get to it. Once this page is done I'm gonna be in the Music Zone and I don't know exactly how long I'll be in that zone for, but I'm gonna have to do as much of it as I can as fast as I can to keep up the flow. For now, though, we're just about on the threshold of that run, so let's get to our usual business.

One of my notes from last time was that I needed to change that first-panel wall divider from "wood posts and drywall" to "this is actually brick". This is gonna be narratively significant, I realized after I'd initially drawn it, but after correcting it I feel like it both more clearly delineates the sub-panel shots looking into the main room and the front room, and also it looks more like a cutaway of the wall than "the wall is damaged and they just live with it", which is really plausible given the setting. Either way, it looks a lot better this way.

Last time I ran one of these I wanted to emphasize the album cover of the song being played to kinda underscore the fact that I'm making a companion read-along to another specific piece of work that I didn't create myself, and I felt like for this run I should stick to that and do it again. Now that the first pass is here you can see that Spade has Queen's Jazz album in his hands and the track is revealed- people who don't follow this blog won't know just yet what the song is gonna be, which should make for some fun posts on the Discord.

Overall I'm really happy with this new-tablet lifestyle. I'm warming into things and I feel like I can do so much more, and get my paints looking really smooth. I'm excited to get into these backgrounds, I think when this page is all put together it's gonna look real nice. I'm gonna get right on that now, so you should be hearing from me again sooner than later. Also, as a reminder: I probably am gonna be doing write-ups about the music section in a way that covers the whole thing, so there might be some bigger spoilers in future posts, if that's a concern of yours it'll be good to know about it. Thanks, as always, for checking in on me. I'll be back soon!
