Dreaming Door was given a golden opportunity to show the world the beauty of the Great Green at GDC in San Francisco! One of the biggest industry-facing events in the gaming world, GDC sees visitors from all over the world, making it the perfect place to show off our new Spanish and Chinese-language demos of the original game.
It is safe to say that the trip was not in vain! With some help from Jeff Ludwig (not related to Ludwig, actually, but a good person and San Francisco local), Ari Zhou (Assistant Producer @ DD, flying in from China) and Mark Ludwig, about 100 people were able to experience Golden Treasure for the first time in our riotously colorful booth. Even in this convention, filled with industry vets and jaded hard-core gamers, we received nothing but positive feedback, and about a quarter of those players went on to buy the game on Steam.
I got to shake the hand of and have a lengthy discussion with the voice of Sly Cooper from the old PS2 games, meet several people who had played and loved Golden Treasure in the past (including one extremely generous person who donated $2000 to Dreaming Door, which will make a real impact on the sequel demo production), and get language-specific feedback from native speakers for the Chinese and Spanish translations, all of which was very good.
It also allowed us to create relationships with new art and marketing collaborators, particularly in the China sphere, as we prepare to officially release the Chinese translation sometime this summer. A Korean version is being experimented with, as a volunteer translator has completed the prologue; if any Dreamers would like to help out with that, just say the word. We could use someone to test what we have so far, if nothing else!
In the month of April, we'll be finishing up the Chinese translation (now well into Part 3), choosing a winner whose species will feature in Hierophant (finally! Sorry about the wait, but we have something special planned to make up for the delay), and of course, make what progress we can on the Hierophant sample. Your patronage makes all of this possible... thank you so much for your support!
