I've only done a couple topical video essays that weren't directly tied to a specific game or series, so I thought it time to roll out one of the ideas for a video I've had for some time now. I've been in a rough patch these past couple weeks due to oral surgery complications. I was originally under the impression that it would be a 3-4 day recovery but due to a particularly rough case of wisdom teeth and a grueling 2-hour surgery, it took a lot longer before I could make it through the day without a ton of rest and painkillers. I highly recommend getting your wisdom teeth checked out and/or handled in your teens or twenties, don't sit on it like I did!
I'm about 90% back to normal now, and ready to get back into creating compelling content for my channel.
My next video will be focused on the effective contrast and levity gained from having less exciting and less fantastic elements or segments in a video game. Like sipping a cup of coffee in the comfy hotel of Deadly Premonition, or working a day-job to make ends meet in Shenmue. I have the basis thesis worked out and most of the script written, though this will be a topical essay so I will need footage from a few more games.
I might also plug a few clips from one of my favorite TV shows, Twin Peaks -- which served as a heavy inspiration for Deadly Premonition and is also a good parallel to the point I am trying to get across: that the simple, day-to-day activities of life create a stronger contrast and make the "not-normal" aspects like murder and the supernatural even more shocking and engaging, since it's basted in the marinade of reality.
I hope this seems like an interesting topic to cover, and I can't wait to share more about the video when it's completed. I am planning to crunch through the pre-production on the video this weekend, and also record and upload a Patrons-only vlog as well before the end of the month. I'll talk to you then!
