Early Access: "SNL VFX Mystery | Quick D"

Hello!

Here it is, the latest video! I can't help feeling like it holds a new record for amount of time spent creating vs. amount of content, but... I did work very hard on it the entire time and... I hope it briefly brightens your day!

This was excellent. I appreciate how humble you are and often seem to second-guess yourself, but man, since discovering your channel recently and watching everything from the beginning, your growth and knowledge is inspiring.

Hello Captain! Figured this would be a good place to leave my feedback on your performance! Firstly, I thought you pulled off playing those different acts extremely well. It was as if you wrote straight from Devin Legal Esquire's dome. The ending with you and Jack was very smooth, it felt like you two were in the same room together. The effort you put in was very palpable as well- there's so much packed into it yet it's only 9 minutes. Which is why I'm not sure how applicable my first criticism will be... I noticed it when I was watching your last debunk- the reason I thought your acting there was *so good* was because you had longer pauses than usual. When you looked at those storage bins and first handled that player, the quiet snowflakes of emotion were settling down on those scenes. It took only a few extra seconds for you to really sell AND tell a story without words. On stage- as I'm sure you're familiar- a certain pace has to be maintained for the audience and if you're too slow they remember they're watching a play. You've managed to defeat that in your Live Talks, and I feel like those boredom-vanquishing abilities have followed you into video. However... there's a luxury of time that film possesses. I think it would be good to take advantage of that waaaay more often. You're a lot more engaging than you think! The original short sketch was really funny and my favourite part of the whole video. Your entire being as the Captain- and I mean this as a clown / Charlie Chaplin compliment way- was stupid. And you weren't just acting panicked, you WERE panicked! It was like you were channeling that anxiety about your messages sounding terrible; it felt so real. (I feel that way every time I send you a message on discord) And hilarious. Then we go back to the Captain acting angry alongside Alan acting scared. It's still pretty good, but the barrier from "acts" to "is" isn't crossed. This is probably the hardest part about acting and you would need some help finding a way to embody those emotions... safely. And laaaastlyyyy ☝️🤓 while your physicality is incredible and leagues above many, I personally think it would be good for you to explore the Captain's range more. Sometimes you repeat yourself physically, like the finger-pointing towards Alan and your younger self. It's really easy to go there when expressing discontent, but maybe the Captain could keep his arms back. Or keep his fists clenched, or sit down and speak quietly (terrifying!). Or grab onto whatever he's throwing his anger on. There's a whole rainbow to explore, and each tells a different story. You can push your voice more, too! Volume changes so much. It's like you're always on the brink of *actually* being loud. It's a race car that never crosses his finish line. Like the other things I've suggested, it's easier said than done. It takes practice, but I think you could do it! Despite my criticisms, your acting is still phenomenal especially since you've received such little instruction. Some experienced actors/directors I've worked with think so as well. I know you get down on yourself about this aspect of CD, but you're doing so much better than you think. Happy Holidays, Sascha

This was delightful. Can't wait to show my wife when it hits YouTube.

Robert Kuykendall

Until they are all edited in post...

I wonder how many/much of the sets were virtual vs. physical. The debunk update desk/set looks real to me, while the men's room looks virtual until the very end with the crane shot.

Michael Rice

You spoil us!

Rich Theobald

I watched it live and remembered thinking that there was so much Chase branding that it seemed like a brand integration.

Callan Christensen

wow, that was incredible. U ARE THE GREATEST

francis

This is brilliant! I love the concept of the video being an episode of SNL and have noticed new, small, and extremely missable details on each re-watch.

Michael Rice

Great as always! Noticed the bluesky bit on the end slide - it's funny that over the years these videos document which social media platforms have lived or died lol

Tom Clabon

This briefly brightened my day! I enjoyed the cameos and all the virtual sets you made
