(Designer Diary) This game is so dang fiddly.

Ok. Truth bomb. The physical version of "Five Floors to Victory" is extremely fiddly. Like, it feels unplayable. And it's even more unplayable if you don't have a Boggle tray that uses 19mm (I think) dice.

I'm still going to release the physical version, but, I highly recommend playing the digital version when it comes out.

On the flip side, it looks cool at least. I feel like if you saw a picture of it you'd be like, "Hey! that looks interesting. I wonder how it plays... oh. I see."

I'm wondering... If the dice images were printed on sublimation paper with the proper ink, could we "iron" the images onto the dice? You might need to make a jig of some type to be able to do 16 dice at once to save time. Hmmmm pondering the ponderous ideas....

I bet playing with tolerances and 3d printing you can find a more satisfying tray. Boggle might be a good starting point but perhaps smaller sockets to fit the dice better but also more space between the dice. So instead of a single box divided by a grid there will be 16 individual boxes. Might feel more satisfying to socket the dice in that way.

Bag of tiles? And a grid to place them on. Exit can be a die or a another bag of tiles. Anyway just an idea. Can use old scrabble tiles to put your stickers on.

Boggle has a lid and you shake the box, shaking all the dice and then having it fall into the 16 pockets. This game has you moving your character (green die) around, fighting monsters, collecting coins, etc -- and doing so by moving the dice, picking up the dice you landed on and removing them -- bleh. It just doesn't feel great.

What makes it most fiddly? Getting the dice into the tray? I’ve never played Boggle myself, so I’m not quite sure how they go in

I can 3d print the tray! I'm more likely to do the digital though.
