Job acquired
Added 2021-10-26 11:28:25 +0000 UTCI start work on a two-month contract with the Royal College of Nursing on Monday. In a classic case of poacher-turner-gamekeeper, I'll be helping members (the RCN is the UK's nursing union) resolve conflicts with their managers and getting to hold business leaders and other HR professionals to account. What fun!
As a result, I'll suspend payments from the Patreon for two months after the next payment run at the end of October.
As it happens, not a lot is going to change as a result of this. I really burned myself out over the Summer and never quite recaptured the energy I needed to move forward. The process of turning one's hobby into one's job is always a dangerous one and can lead to resentment, stress and pressure that reduces both the joy one feels in things that used to delight, and the quality of the work one is doing.
I did manage to re-discover some of that joy in playtesting the new Ballmonsters!, but even that started to leave me a bit cross-eyed on the fourth or fifth iteration.
Podcasts will likely end up being fortnightly after this week's episode until Christmas, and patrons will get them on Saturdays rather than Fridays. And the several patrons who are owed painted minis will finally start to get them shipped (most of them are finished but, for various weird psychological reasons, I've just not been able to take the next step of just putting them in the post!).
Anyway, I feel very confident that this time away from design will only help me to come back in January with more enthusiasm, more energy and better ideas that will help 2022 see Zero Dark: FEAR, Zero Dark: Operation Kurgan and Ballmonsters! all get general releases.
