I've been thinking a lot about a 2 player mode and I've also been looking at a lot of games to find ideas for a working simultaneous 2 player mode... without making the levels more linear that's not possible and I don't like that idea of linear levels.
So I chose another way... maybe some people will dislike it but personally I wonder why no other game on the NeoGeo has ever used this cool feature. Here is a short preview of the current version, I hope you like it.
-=> 3 layer multi direction parallax scrolling in 2 separate views... only NeoGeo can do this!
The first 100 seconds show the new gameplay... new enemy movements, new physics for the coins, you lose up to 10 coins if you get hurt etc. The following 100 seconds show the 2 player mode... currently the players cannot interact with each other (except stealing coins from each other if player gets hurt) but later on friendly fire may be allowed.
In this video all input for Player1 is streamed from a dump - this is important for a planned demo/attract-mode (next problem solved). When Player2 joins the screen transition is a bit rough but seamless.
The movements of the enemies are not yet complete, some sound effects are still missing but I think this gives you a good impression of what i am working on.
When Player 1 meets Player 2 it can sometimes be confusing... maybe Player 2 needs a different color... blue or green or yellow or...
