Coding Again Like It's The 80s Files // YouTube

New video out over on YouTube: https://youtu.be/tFb89_gN2dE ... Where I experience for the first time, the trials and tribulations of typing in some 80s computer games from a 1984 copy of famous C&VG (Computer and Video Games) Magazine ... Using 5 different retro computers, I test, and load up 5 of the 7 type-in games to see really how good these listings were!🕹️

As promised in the video, please find attached the exact code I typed in. There are 3 files, a disk image "frogger.d64" for the Commodore 64, a wav audio file (tape) "thunderman.wav" and "THUNDER.DSK" disk image for the TI99/4A. I've tested both, and can confirm they work either on real hardware, or the following emulators, VICE for the C64 and Classic99 for the TI.

Would love to hear your thought on the games you saw in the video, and your experiences with magazine type in games, whether good or bad.

Quite a few have mentioned listings with checksums in the comments over on YouTube as well ... So, you never know this might make a good follow-up video exploring, the various ways they made typing in listings easier.👍

The Type-In-Experience as a german guy who read 64’er back in the days feels a bit like cheating when I watch your video. This Magazine had a special tool called «Checksummer» which prints a checksum of your last line to the upper right corner of the screen, so you know instantly if you had entered your basic-line correctly. Quite handy with data-desserts. Later issues also had a special way of printing the PETSCII-characters, as far as I remember the charaters with shift where underlined, the characters with the CBM-Key where upperlined. They also described the other special controls like [WHITE] or [CLR]. I really love to see this video, it gives back so much memories... 😍
