Episode 9 links!

Hey everyone.

Just got done doing all my tests looking for bugs etc and everything seems fine. I'm still having discord problems so I'm probably going to create a new server soon. I'm going to have to pack my
PC up as soon as I post this link so if you find bugs (there shouldn't be any), please give me a few days. I'm moving my things to the new place in literally 8 hours. It'll take a day or two to get a new wifi connection once I'm there.

The Steam and itch version will be uploaded as soon as I get wifi at the new place. The only reason for the delayed Steam upload is I need to add the achievements and the itch version, well I'm pretty low on time haha I have a lot of packing to do in these 8 hours.

The episode was a lot of fun to make as usual. Working my 9-5 and also working on this VN isn't as bad as I thought it would be. I figured I'd be burnt out but the only constraint is time. I still enjoy doing what I do and hopefully the community grows so I can quit that damned 9-5. I'm only doing it because I have to right now for a few months at least until I get comfortable again.

For those of you who joined my Patreon in the past few days, Welcome! I wish there was a way I could tell you guys to hold on joining because you'll get charged on the 1st of next month (my billing cycle) and we're in the last week of this month already. I just feel bad for you guys. I'm not sure if Patreon gives you a warning before you subscribe to someone. But anyway thanks a lot for supporting me.

I hope you enjoy the episode and I hope all of you have a great weekend. Enjoy your weekend on my behalf because I'll be busy unpacking for a few days 😅.

Thank you all for sticking around even when I struggle to keep up with my own deadlines and allowing me to do what I love.

Not quite, we just need one or two more contents to get THAT job done.

Targonis

I hope this pushes the wall of text down into "Load more comments."

Well, as Ivar is Ivar, CC is *CC* It's the only VN where characters are so amicably. Plus Ivar and Mc's hilarious joke. You can't them anywhere. Rendering story telling, music is just perfect. So yeah I agree with you, Kudos to hard work of CC

Mr Das

Hey CC! First of all, thank you for releasing part nine of The Swordbearer on Patreon a couple of days before it drops on Steam. It gave me a chance to read the chapter before all the inevitable fan-submitted spoiler screenshots showed up on the game’s Steam page. :-) I totally get it that Steam readers are excited by what’s happening in your story, and I think it’s great that they are excited, but I had the last chapter’s big surprise – about a certain character being more than they appeared to be – spoilered the day after the chapter went to Steam because somebody just *had* to post a pic about it in plain view. Sigh. So, I appreciate the first look, and I was *very* impressed by part nine. It was definitely a lot more than I was expecting, and I already know that your work is good! Given all the real-life craziness you’ve been enduring, I expected part nine to be shorter than usual because time has not been on your side recently. Instead, not only was this chapter longer, it was very full. A lot of things happened in part nine, involving a lot of different characters, in a lot of different locations. I do some rendering myself – very basic stuff – so I know just how much time can be spent setting up and lighting even a single scene with a character or two. You went *far* beyond my expectations with the content this time, and I thank you for your hard work. It was very entertaining to have so many different story things all going on in part nine! It was nice to revisit so many familiar characters and see how their lives are shifting and changing as the story’s major threat draws closer. I was especially impressed with your development of Princess Esther. The beautiful princess who longs to live a life in the wider world is basically a faerie tale trope. Not a bad one, but a very familiar one. By hinting that something unexpected is in process with Esther, you pushed past the familiar, and made her intriguing as a character. More than just your typical lovely princess. Nice job, that! :-) The other thing which absolutely impressed me about part nine was the way you presented the fight scene between the main character and another major character, whose identity I won’t spoiler here. I remember you were discouraged that you couldn’t yet find a way to fully animate your combat scenes to your liking – but CC, the way you presented that fight scene in part nine was both effective and impressive. Sometimes, with full motion video or movies, the importance of certain details can get lost in the flow, because everything is going by so rapidly. By presenting your fight scene as a series of sequential images, you tapped in to the unique storytelling power of comic books and graphic novels. Like comic book pioneer Jack Kirby (who co-created many of the early Marvel Comics characters) you really tapped in to the storytelling power of cinematic-style sequential art. You focused in on the dramatic power of a sequence of images: we see the readying of the strike; we see the strike fall; we see the results of the strike. It creates a kind of ongoing tension as you read along, screen by screen, moment to moment. Setting up tension, and then revealing how that tension plays out, before moving on to the next exchange. All the effect of a movie action sequence, but one which the reader can digest at their own pace, without ever missing a beat. You added occasional sound effects, and brief musical bits, to heighten the cinematic feel of it all. It was impressively handled. You may think you need real-time animation for the fight sequences in The Swordbearer, but I’m no longer convinced that you do. The way you handled the action sequences carried a storytelling power and a significance all their own. Thank you! One last thing before I go; your sweetheart was kind enough to suggest, through you, above, that my encouragement of your work might deserve a character in-game named Dacer. Honestly, a lot of my usernames, like this one, are just a jumble of letters I make up that the given website will accept. There’s no meaning to them. So, while I do thank your sweetheart for their kind consideration, your fun, funny, interesting, and well-made story is more than reward enough. Speaking of enough: dear Lord, this post is *way too f&%ing long*!!! I guess I had a lot to say? :-) Best to you and yours CC, as always. Be well!

Dacer

Hey! As soon as I’m done with the Steam upload. Got my wifi an hour ago but it’s kinda late here and I have a maintenance team coming over in the morning so Steam and itch upload after that, followed by the new server. It sucks because so many joined the old one but it is what it is 🥲

CaramelCowboy

Hello really enjoyed the update. Was curious how far on your to do list is creating a new discord? I recall you saying you lost access if I'm not mistaken

Damnit Dan

Thank you for your kind words as always Dacer! Believe it or not you’re a big part of why I love working on the VN 😂 . My fiancé has seen your comments and always says I need to have a npc in-game named after you 😂. The new place is good so far. It’s on the 20th floor so I gotta get used to the howling wind sounds but I can just think of it as white noise. I’m super excited to work on the next one because of how this one ended so I’m just asset browsing today on my phone to see if I can find something fun to include. I don’t want to lose my flow so I’ll get back to work as soon as my wifi connects (should be tomorrow)

CaramelCowboy

Thanks for the update, CC! My sympathies for you having to move again, so soon after last time. I have moved so often, since I was a child -- usually due to family stuff -- that I can't even reliably remember all the places I've lived, so I feel ya. Every time I move now, I'm like "This will be the last time!!!" Until it isn't. :-) So, I feel your pain, CC, and I thank you for all your hard work in spite of all you're going through. I look forward to reading the new stuff, as ever. Be well!

Dacer

Yes, got it. I'll play again sometime later

Mr Das

You basically have to go through ‘the’ scene with Carmine and you eventually run into her again early in the game. She opens up to you about something and that connection shows up in this episode.

CaramelCowboy

That's I skipped, thanks for heads up

Mr Das

She’s connected to Carmine(the redhead from the first episode)

CaramelCowboy

Well thanks. I thought something was broken, haha And I'll play from scratch cause it's once a lifetime ago Just in case could you tell me which decision is needed here

Mr Das

When you do please let me know this is hands down one of the best games I've played love Asshole Steve the market scene is the best I've seen

James Henry

I don’t do apk links sorry haven’t tried those out yet

CaramelCowboy

DO NOT READ IF YOU HAVENT PLAYED THIS EPISODE. Thanks for playing! Yeah that scene is just an introduction to more content. My goal in that scene was just to give Mc the ‘decision maker’ role. The Fiona thing is intentional because you had to have made a choice from a couple of episodes ago. The variable detected correctly from my tests but I’ll look again. Thanks for your support!

CaramelCowboy

Any Android links? Apk

James Henry

Great update as always There were some funny scenes indeed The fight was great indeed. But the thug scene was gross. Mc didn't do anything. Some factions scene here and there makes it more interesting. One thing, while free-roaming conversation with Fiona broke. Showing you have made / haven't made a prior choice that prevents you from playing Other than good enough. And thanks for making the weekend amazing Also take care of yourself man
