The way they stack the reveals right from the start of this episode is pretty smart - after a bunch of episodes of throwing out misdirection, so the audience thinks they have some idea what's going on, then just completely turn it on its head. Sam Esmail is a genius - he's also an absolute confidence trickster in how he writes. Now you understand why Darlene was overly familiar with Elliot, asking to crash at his apartment and a bunch of other things - we and Elliot didn't know what other characters knew. You mentioned unreliable narrators from the start - yep, that.

Also they were never introduce…if you go back Darlene always acted as if she knew him (of course she did…her crazy older brother) can’t wait for the next two. Hope you are enjoying.

2023-09-08 01:44:13 +0000 UTCI had no idea. 🤯 But I was like ⁉️❓❓earlier in the episode when Darlene was extra worried and affectionate with Elliot and how odd that was? With that reveal, it makes sense! The small Shayla throwback was sweet in sentiment but awfully timed indeed. 🙃😖
2023-09-07 22:31:23 +0000 UTC🤭🤭🤭 and now that I have rewatched it I am SO THRILLED you didn't see the big plot twist in advance for this episode (like a majority of people, myself included didn't on first watch). And as a small sidenote that I didn't notice until maybe 2nd or 3rd -rewatch- the excellent callback from kissing Shayla, where he ASKED her if it was ok to kiss her, and Shayla responded to "Next time don't ask, it's lame." You can see how well that worked out for him. 🤣
